The first coffee shop was opened in 1903 and it was called the Dutchman’s Coffee House. The name changed to theFaribault Coffee House in 1912. By 1916, there were six coffee shops in Faribault and they all used different names.The first coffee beans were roasted on April 1, 1867 by Nathan Le Royer in Chittenden County, Vermont. The first Starbucks opened in Seattle, Washington on May 9th, 1997. There are now over 20 Starbucks locations globally with more planned to open throughout 2018 including one in Canada! In 1904-1905, two brothers named Olaf and Herman Schultz started a bakery near the University of Minnesota campus. They bought the land for their bakery and built a small shop around it which they named “Kramer’s Bakery” After World War I ended and Minneapolis increased its population, Kramer’s Bakery had to move because of zoning changes that limited businesses to three blocks wide at that time! With help from friends and family members (including their brother-in-law Harry Smith who donated 120 acres of land), they reopened their business as “Schultz’s Cafe & Millinery store” In 1923 they moved again – this time to 4441 Lyndale Avenue North where they still operate today as an independentlyowned store selling both food products and clothing! In 1935 Schultz sold his interest in Schultz's Cafe & Millinery store to his wife Mildred; her husband John ran it until he died in 1984. Their daughter Karen took over running it until she passed away in 2012! Today Schultz's Cafe continues as an independentlyowned business located just northeast of downtown Minneapolis serving up delicious home brewed coffee from their farm ground beans!

The town was founded in 1871 by developers who were looking for a place to settle after purchasing land east of Minneapolis. Faribault was a city in Minnesota, United States from 1849 until it was annexed by Minneapolis in 1872. It is the namesake of the Faribault County Courthouse. The city was founded on the east bank of the Mississippi River and became an important transportation center for eastern Minnesota. In 1881, it amalgamated with other towns in Minneapolis to form what is now Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area.
In 1881, farmers on the east side of Faribault founded a Presbyterian church. That same year, the Minnesota Territorial Legislature created the city of Faribault as a county seat. The county was named after General Alfred M. Pembina, who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as governor of Minnesota. In 1886, an act granted city status to Faribault and made it one of the first cities in Minnesota. The City Council began meeting in 1892 and organized into wards. In 1899, a fire destroyed most of the town center but left many buildings standing. The following year saw construction of a new town hall and library which were both used for many years until they were replaced by current structures in 1978 and 2002 respectively. In 1907, Green Bay Road (now Interstate 35) was built through central Faribault with intentions to connect it with other municipalities in the area. However, this project failed to materialize due to financial difficulties. In 1915, railroad developers established what is now called Depot Station on Depot Avenue just northeast of downtownFaribault for shipment of goods from local farms to larger mills in Minneapolis or St Paul across the state line. This community grew rapidly due to its location and became known as "The Grain Belt". Passenger trains stopped running at Depot Station around World War II because there wasn't enough room on either side of the tracks for all those arriving passengers & freight together; this led to development along Red River Road between Depot Station & Maple Grove which eventually became downtownFaribault today
