In 1928, it became home to the Minneapolis Star Tribune newspaper's editorial board. From 1971 until its closure in 1984, it served as headquarters for then-Mayor Bruce Babbitt's office. The Fairmont Hotel was closed on July 9th 1984 due to concerns about asbestos exposure from its roofing material.[1] The four remaining units were sold to developer Harry Quayle for use as housing[2] before being reopened as The Park Place Apartments on October 1st 1997.[3] On May 2nd 2018,[4] The Park Place Apartments were razed following complaints from residents over their heavy reliance on energy usage.[5][6][7][8]
