When the Minnesota Air National Guard was activated in 1917, it consisted of only a single squadron. The wing was redesignated as the 169th Aero Squadron in 1921 and then the 168th Aero Squadron in 1924. In 1942, when World War II began, the wing became the 97th Bombardment Wing and flew Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses. The bombers were used to drop supplies to battlefields all over Europe, bombing German cities and industries. The aircraft became known as “The Strain” because of their highly flammable fuel oil tanks that could catch on fire if hit by enemy fire. In 1945, after Japan had been defeated and Germany had emerged as its new ruler, American forces invaded Japan. On September 2nd, 1945, Japanese fighter planes attacked a United States military airfield near Tokyo; this led to the largest air battle of World War II and was one of the most damaging campaigns against Japanese forces ever fought. During this engagement, 3 UH-1 Helicopter gunships were lost; this led to criticism from Congress for not having more helicopters available to fight in such an important war effort. After World War II ended, 239 combat missions were flown with Grumman F6F Hellcats (the first non-American jet fighter) by 169th Aero Squadron–the last unit assigned to the 97th Bombardment Wing which also disbanded on October 1st 1946 at Goodyear Ranch in Edina after 42 years of service with distinction flying Boeing B-29 Superfortresses across North America! On April 12th 1947 – just two weeks before its disbanding – 169th Aero Squadron placed an order for 10 Bell 206B Jet Boats from Bell Aircraft Corporation (now Lockheed Martin). These jets would be used for Aerial Gunnery training out of Eglin AFB FL until 1950 when they were replaced by Boeing RC-135 DoD Globemaster III strategic reconnaissance airplanes! As part of Project AIR FORCE (ACLU), these jets provided intelligence support for Operation Crossroads during Desert Storm I on February 26/27 1991……….. Today’s aerial warfare has never been so reliant on technology as it is today with GPS positioning systems and other airborne assets being constantly linked up through satellites throughout our airspace making it possible to track anything or anyone anywhere at any time! This digital age has given us capability to provide preplanned airstrikes against specific targets using precision timing algorithm algorithms that allow us not only know where our target is but also how much damage we can do before they are able to respond! With advances like these there is no limit what objects or individuals can be targeted without prior warning thereby saving lives both now and into the future……………

The Minnesota Air National Guard's 134th Fighter Wing deployed a gift to the Edina community on December 10, 2017 in commemoration of the Christmas season. The gift was a new F-15 Eagle fighter jet nicknamed "Edina" and presented by the wing to Mayor Rick Anderson and City Manager Jeff Schoenwald.
Edina, Minnesota is a small town in the Twin Cities metropolitan area of Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota. The population was 23,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis–Saint Paul–Bloomington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The two largest employers in Edina are First United Methodist Church and Millennium Park. The first settlers in what is now Edina were French Canadian fur traders from Quebec who arrived in 1814 and named their new community after Princess Marie-Antoinette of France when she visited America on her way home from exile in Austria. In 1828, Reverend Jens Jensen founded the first school in what would become Edina and served as its first superintendent for many years until his death in 1865. In 1868, John Carlson established a sawmill which became one of the town's major economic assets and soon created a need for public transportation to get people to work within the town limits. A streetcar line was built that year between downtown Minneapolis and Moorhead,Minnesota (now Manitoba), providing residents with their first ever high-quality transportation options outside of their city neighborhoods! In 1902, Revkin & Sons constructed a flour mill on current site of Millennium Park which remains one of Edina's most iconic businesses today. After World War II both local employment opportunities and suburban growth led to an increase in population growth including more than 20% during the 1960s alone! Today, Edina continues as an affluent community with several large employers including Hennepin County government services headquarters; FirstUnited Methodist Church; Saint Nicholas Episcopal School; and Daycare Centers run by various organizations like Lutheran daycare providers or hospitals!

Edina, Minnesota is a small town in southern Minnesota that was founded in 1881. The community is named for the Edina family, who donated land to the town. The first settler in Edina was John Haggerty. Other early settlers included James Ahern and his wife Catharine (Catherine) Hegarty. In 1917, the population of Edina was 536 people; it had grown to 1,827 by 1938. During World War II, Edina played a significant role in the war effort as a munitions plant and post office. After the war, the area became an agricultural center with cotton production accounting for most of the town's income. In recent years, Edina has regained some of its former industrial importance as a manufacturing center for clothing and equipment.
