Eden Prairie is a small town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 548 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Eden Prairie was founded in 1851 and incorporated as a city in 1904. The name "Eden" comes from the Garden of Eden in the bible, which may have been located hereabouts. The first settlers to what is now Eden Prairie were farmers who came overland from Illinois around 1837. They named their farm "Resolute". Some of these early pioneers were George Armstrong Custer and his brother Jacob Custer, both of whom fought in the Mexican–American War and died there while on campaign; they are buried at Fort Rice National Military Park near Minneapolis. In 1851, a group of men led by David Hudson set out from Chicago on horseback for what would become Eden Prairie. They arrived on January 2nd,1851 - one day after Minnesota's admission to the United States as a state! The town was platted soon thereafter by Cemetery commissioners John Hennepin and Ebenezer Bemis (brother-in-law of local postmaster David Hudson). The first store opened in December 1852 with merchandise bought from farmers living northeast of Stroudsburg (nowWest Allis), Pennsylvania Dutch immigrants who had come overland that year to escape religious discrimination back home. Cedar logs were used for wood burning until about 1870 when an iron furnace became available nearby; this allowed for large blacksmith shops and other heavy equipment fabrication nearby too! This initial growth did not last long however; within six years all but two businesses had gone out of business due to competition from Jackson’s Mill & Warehouse just down the street. This mill closed its doors on November 3rd 1865 after producing flour for fifteen months straight! In 1865 another business called Gales Bros Emporium opened up next door; this was eventually replaced by Nordstrom’s department store which anchor today’s downtown core although it originally occupied only one endowment block across Third Street from where current Nordstrom Tower stands! A new courthouse was built between 1872-75 opposite Pioneer Hall—this helped spur further development especially along 9th Street where several residences and churches still stand today including First Baptist Church (1892), Christ Episcopal Church (1910), Missionary Baptist Church (1912) and Zion Lutheran Church (1914). Today you can find remnants of many pioneer homes like “Hundred Acre House”/4TH&MN nearcurrent Target Field, “Pioneer Cabin”/2ND&MN just northwest corner 8th St., etc… . Downtown began to take shape with streetcar service starting on February 17th 1893 when Oneida Street running through it became known as “Citizen Streetside Avenue” after then Mayor Sibley offered free rides inside his office building! By 1911 Villardt Drugs had moved into their present location southwest corner Third Street & Seventh Avenue while Safeway took over east side blocks between Fourth & Fifth streets before moving westward into current Nordstrom Tower! Downtown businesses continued growing until World War II when most left behind or converted to apartments or housing developments such as Guaranteed Rate Housing Company buildings next door to historical First Unitarian Universalist congregation located since 1907 among others—-all demolished during recent Edgell redevelopment project!! After WWII downtown declined somewhat again until 1957 when newly formed Town Council adopted plans called for extensive renovation/replacement including demolition/ erection of much unwanted older structures finally culminating in 1966 with opening of new civic center adjacent to new senior citizens complex!!! With suburbanization continuing rapidly throughout late 20th century downtown lost many residents leading finally to abandonment beginning in late 1990s followed by recent attempted revitalization process……There has been some recent interest recently expressed by community members in repairing or restoring old buildings within limits established via resolution passed earlier this year??? Eden Prairie has always been an agricultural town though commercial agriculture increased markedly during Prohibition thanks largely to flourishstraps operated by entrepreneurs like Wm Jobe Sr.* later owner emeritus* also started packing pails Of fresh produce at local grocery stores nearby phone booth
