Eden Prairie is a small city located in the state of Minnesota. The population was 9,851 at the 2010 census, down from 10,146 at the 2000 census. Eden Prairie is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. Eden Prairie began as a farmstead on what was then a remote stretch of land between Two Harbors and Wabasha Lakes. In 1854, Captain Amos Northrop founded what became known as Northrop's Landing on this tract of land. The landing served as an important stop on the Underground Railroad and later became a center for Lutheran missionary work in Dakota Territory. In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln signed into law the Organic Act which created Eden Prairie Township and included much of present-day Eden Prairie within its boundaries. By 1870, about 60 percent of all seed planted in Dakota Territory had been grown in Eden Prairie; grain crops were also becoming popular here because they could be raised quickly and with little water use. The early days of Eden Prairie were difficult for many people: settlers paid high prices for virgin land that was hard to come by and didn't have any inherent value other than its proximity to cities like Minneapolis or St. Paul (then only settlements). But over time, some farmers developed successful wheat farming operations here while others set up businesses making goods unavailable outside their towns or villages—like flour mills that turned out product made from ground corn instead of rawhide or cloth products—thus creating something new in American agriculture: self-sufficient communities near major urban areas where local entrepreneurs could produce what consumers wanted without having to worry about getting it from anywhere else

Eden Prairie is a small town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 3,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. Eden Prairie has been home to various pioneer and agricultural families for over three hundred years. Eden Prairie's history can be traced back to 1821 when John Aitken and his family moved from Maryland to what is now rural Ramsey County. With a population of only twenty-four people in 1821, the Aitkens were one of the first European settlers in what would become Eden Prairie. The community name "Eden" was derived from an early settler's farmstead known as "Tiverton". The first school in Eden Prairie was opened on September 8, 1824, by Reverend Nathaniel Wirths with thirteen students taught by Mrs. Beecher. In 1827, another eleven students were added to the school board and it becameknown as "Farragut School". That same year, Captain James Watt married Miss Lydia Sigourney and purchased two sections of land east of present day Eden Prairie for $1 each (this section still stands). On December 15th, 1830 – barely five months after their arrival – the Watt family donated 640 acres (2 km²) of their farmstead called Kildeer Heights which would later house 2 churches and numerous other buildings including a Masonic Lodge which still stands today! In 1835–36 Major Elijah Hennepin organized a wagon team trip across Canada that traveled from Montreal through Toronto into Lake Superior; this event helped start Wisconsin Territory west ofMinnesota proper becoming Dakota Territory in 1862 following Dakota War #2 skirmish nearpresent day Winnipeg On July 6th 1840 Mr & Mrs John Farragut donated 548 acres (225 km²) just east of present day Eden Prairie to create what would become Maple Grove Township; this donation forms partof Maple Grove Historical Park which lies within downtown Minneapolis today It wasn't until 1861 that Isaac Stevens deposited 730 acres (300 km²) northwest of present day Cedar Rapids onto what wouldbecome Alexander township - thus forming Cedar River Township; this donation formed partof present day Carver County . In 1865 additions were made to all six townships makingup current-day Ramsey County: Apple Valley/Eden Park Township (); Bemidji/Watertown Township (); Byron/Delfina Township ();Maple Grove/Alexander Township ();and Ridgefield/Hennepin Township (). However dueto annexation by Minneapolis-Saint Paul following World War II most residents relocated outsidethe Twin Cities area .
