Eagan, Minnesota is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 26,828 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Hennepin County after Minneapolis. The first people to inhabit what is now Eagan were Nakoda Indians who lived on a bluff overlooking the river that later became known as Mound City Road (Mk 2). WhenMinnesota statehood was granted to Minnesota on April 29, 1858, Bridger Township was included within new Ramsey County. In 1865 John A Boones began construction of what would become Stroudsburg High School and it opened for students on October 3rd of that year. By 1870 enrollment had reached 1123 students and by 1876 it had grown to 2500 students with an auditorium and gymnasium on campus which still stands today! In 1916 Stroudsburg closed due to World War I but reopened under new management less than one year later! With over $2 million in investments from local businesses including General Motors Company and Wrigley’s chewing gum company Stroudsburg High School became one of America’s most well known institutions providing top notch education for both boys and girls until closing its doors again during the late 1990s! In 1960 when Ramsey County was dissolved andBecameHennepinCounty;Eagan announced plans to establish itself as an independent municipality with a population over fifty thousand individuals “We want our voice heard loud enough so that future generations can see us through” said Mayor Jim Beattie as he unveiled his plan for annexation into Hennepin County

It is the second-largest city in Minnesota after Minneapolis. Eagan is part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area, which has a population of 621,564 as of 2017.[1] The first European arrivals to what is nowMinnesota were French Catholic missionaries who founded Saint Anthony's Parish in 1819 on an island in Lake Superior near present-day Eagan. In 1828 United States Congress passed a law making Dakota Territory part of this country; Dakota residents voted to become part of Minnesota on November 4, 1854. The town site was chosen for its strategic location within easy reach of both Washington D.C., then home to much of America's political elite and Chicago, then one of the world's great industrial centers. The town site was surveyed by George Armstrong Cushing and named after General James Hennepin (1794–1868), commander general during American civil war I (1812–1815). Construction began on the first courthouse in 1859 and it opened on October 17 that year. The original building served as court house until 1912 when it burned down and replaced with a new courthouse designed by Danish architect Ole Kirk Christiansen which still stands today across from City Hall/ County Hall Building facing Madison Avenue South/Downtown Street/. In 1870 Stroudsburg Township was organized out west adjoining Dakota Territory but it wasn't until 1888 when Minneapolis became its official county seat that all three townships were merged into one entity known as Egan County
