The first coffee shop in Eagan was the Coffee House, which opened in 1916. The original roasting and grinding machines were built by Swedish immigrants. This business was eventually purchased by Dutchman Hendrik Oudolf and renamed the Hendrik Oudolf Coffee Shop. In 1951, the business was sold to Harry Bjorklund and became known as Harry's Coffee House. The store closed in 1984 but reopened under new ownership in 1990 and continued to be a popular go-to spot for coffee lovers throughout the years. In 1999, Harry's Coffee House moved from its original location to its current location on West Seventh Street.
Eagan is a small town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,446 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest municipality in Minnesota. Eagan is located on the east side of Twin Cities metropolitan area and is bordered by Rice to the south and east, Maple Grove to the north, Elk River to the west and Crazy Horse Lake to the northwest. The first Europeans to visit what is now Eagan were fur traders from Quebec who came through in 1819 and 1820. They stopped at what is now Egan's mill on their way back from a trading expedition into Dakota Territory. The first settler in present-day Eagan was David Hoyt who built a cabin around 1827. About that time there was also talk of creating a village or community near Elk River because it would be easier for farmers to get goods upriver than downriver where transportation was difficult or impossible. By 1830 about 50 people lived in present day Eagan with 5 homes; these settlers were part of an early Native American band known as the Mnisca (Mnishka). In 1834 Hennepin County became organized which included all ofMinnesota then lying east ofthe Mississippi River including Dakota Territory; henceforth Hennepin County would include both Dakota Territory and Minnesota proper until new boundaries were set following statehood in 1912. In 1843 Sibley had come across land rights claims by three men – John Aitken, Angus Reid (brother of Sir John Alexander Reid) and James McKay – who claimed parts of what are now Ramsey County, Mankato Township (now Stroudsburg), White Earth Township (now Hastings), Mahonia Township (now Shakopee), Cottonwood Township (now Alexandria), Goodhue Township (now Minneapolis-Saint Paul) and some pieces of Stillwater Valley township within today’s Bloomington city limits; these lands ran along most ofpresent-day Rice Road between Mankato Junction onthe right bank Of river To Raymondville on its left bank about midway between Hennepinand Ramsey Countysouthwest corner; this road still exists as State Highway 9 North (or US 169 West ). Eagan is a small city in the Minnesota state of Minnesota, located about 25 miles north of Minneapolis. The population was 10,898 at the 2010 census. Eagan is home to the Mayo Clinic and many educational institutions, including St. John's University and Hennepin County Technical College. The first settlement in what is now Eagan was made by David Sivert on July 1, 1854. The town name originated from an early settler's farmstead called "Eagan." The first school in the area was opened in 1857 and classes were held until 1889 when they moved to what is now the Mayo Clinic campus. During World War II, Eagan played a significant role as a munitions plant for Fort Snelling military installation. In 1951, when that fort closed its doors after Wrestlemania III, most of its munitions were stored at Eagan munitions Plant until it reopened as an electronic storage facility in 1984. In 1969, Edwin Land purchased 8 acres (3 hectares) of land at the intersection of 7th Street and River Road for $1 million which would become known as Midtown Shopping Center. That same year saw the opening of Stonington Mall which anchored what is now Seventh Street NW between Second Avenue N and Third Avenue N across from downtown Minneapolis; becoming one of largest shopping centers east of Chicago with over 100 stores including Sears Holdings Corporation (Sears), JCPenney Inc., Macy's Inc., Kmart Corp., Nordstrom Inc., and Bloomingdale's Fifth Avenue Department Store before it closed in 1992 following a bankruptcy sale to JBL Retail Group LLC.. In 2002, Midtown Shopping Center was sold to Kinston Development Partners LP who restored both buildings into retail uses as Kinston Place mall which anchors Interstate 94W between First Avenue NE & Third Avenue NE across from downtown Minneapolis..
