(Jimmie) Schulte purchased a rifle from Nicholas J. Browning for his sister-in-law, Edna Schulte. The rifle was used to shoot game at their property near Maplewood. In 1925, James Wohl bought a revolver from Augustus Biddle for his wife Clara Wohl. The revolver was used to protect them during the Great Depression. In 1933, Harry Sollenberger bought a .22 caliber pistol from Don Marlin Firearms Sales Company for his wife Alma Sollenberger. The handgun was used to kill dogs and cats in their home as part of an experiment conducted by Drs. Harry Sollenberger and Walter Cronkite as part of their newscast program "The Edge". One such individual was George Smedley who later became an American industrialist with interests throughout North America. In 1924, Cottage Grove merged with nearby Brooklyn Park to form a new city called Brooklyn Park-Cottage Grove which continued to grow until its merger into Hennepin County in 1998 as part of broader changes within that county related to population growth rates within different areas of county government following constitutional amendment which grantedHennepin County more power over municipal governments within its borders - specifically increasing density limits for municipalities within rural areas (and less density limits for municipalities within urban areas). Cottage Grove is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota, located on the west side of the state's Lower Midwest region. The population was 382 at the 2010 census, up from 328 at the 2000 census. It has grown rapidly since its incorporation as a city in 1963, and now covers an area of just under 10 square miles (25 km²). Cottage Grove is one of thirty-four cities in Minnesota that have been incorporated into metropolitan areas since 2007, making it easier for people to get around and connect with their larger counterparts. The first settlers to Cottage Grove were farmers who arrived in 1851 from Armour County, Michigan. They established a village near present-day Maplewood and named it after President George Washington's birthplace on Mount Vernon Island, Virginia. By 1855, there were twenty residents living in Cottage Grove. In 1863, Cottage Grove was incorporated as a city by act of the Minnesota Legislature; it wasMinnesota's first city government formed outside of Minneapolis or St Paul. The growth of Cottage Grove – which paralleled that of Minneapolis – led to rapid expansion within city limits: by 1970, there were over 1,000 residents living in what is now downtown Cottage Grove (including several thousand students attending local universities).
