The ship was soon joined by the USS Lexington (CV-2), and together they were designated as the "Navy's First Fleet." On January 2nd, 1942, both ships departed for their first deployment to the Pacific Ocean. They would remain in that area until September 1945. During their time in the Pacific they would participate in a variety of campaigns including Battle of Midway, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. On October 3rd, 1945, after completing their tour of duty in the AsiaPacific region,USS Constitution and USS Lexington returned home respectively.
