They erected a memorial for fallen marines and members of the military at Veterans Memorial Park and served as honorary mayors for a few years. In 1992 they marked another milestone by erecting a plaque commemorating soldiers who died during Operation Desert Storm. Nowadays, we can still see remnants of what these Marines left behind when they deployed here back in 1941-1992. For example, there's still a large piece of concrete from an artillery range that stands outside of town limits today! Coon Rapids, Minnesota is a small town located in the northern portion of Saint Louis County, Minnesota. The population was 793 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. Coon Rapids was founded in 1854 and named for John Cordon, an American fur trader who explored the region during the 1850s. The first settler in what is now Coon Rapids was James Auld, who arrived in 1855 and built a log cabin on the banks of the Cedar River. A few years later, he married Lydia Carlson and started to grow corn and other crops on his land. In 1861, Alexander Macdonald purchased some of James Auld's land and began to build a log cabin on what is now Main Street. He also started to grow wheat and other crops near his new home. In 1869, Jacob Sorenson arrived in Coon Rapids from Norway with his family and began to farm around Big Lake. His son Julius eventually became head farmer here as well. Around this time, too, people started to bring their own dogs (pets) over from Sweden because there wasn't enough room for them back home on farms that grew horses or cattle. Soon there were many dog-headed households in Coon Rapids! In 1879, Minnesota State Highway 27 was established along present-day Highway 61 south of town; it would become one of Twin Cities' most important arteries during its early years as a service corridor connecting downtown Minneapolis with rural areas north of St penis Countyline

Coon Rapids was founded in 1868 by a group of farmers who left the Dakota Territory to create a new community. The town grew quickly, and by 1892 it had more than 120 residents. The post office was first established in Coon Rapids in 1876, and until 1939 it served as the only facility in the town. Over time, Coon Rapids became known for its fertile agricultural land, its St. John’s Lutheran Church (founded in 1887), and its wide variety of businesses and services. In 1960, the town passed an ordinance establishing a curfew for nightlife purposes; this measure helped to limit COON RAPIDS' growth during the late 1960s and early 1970s. However, over time COON RAPIDS has seen some redevelopment with new housing developments on both sides of Western Avenue.
Coon Rapids was founded in 1854 and named for Chief Coon of the Sioux. The town was established on a site that had been part of the Dakota Territory since the early 1800s. The first post office was established in 1857, and the first store opened in 1860. In 1865, the town became a county seat. It lost its county seat status in 1912 but regained it in 1974. The population of Coon Rapids grew from 5,000 to over 100,000 during the 20th century.
