Coon Rapids, Minnesota is a small town located in the state of Minnesota. The population was 5,836 at the 2010 census. Coon Rapids is located in Ramsey County and is bordered by the cities of Hastings and Rochester on the north, Ashtabula on the east, White Earth on the south, andBloomington to the west. The name "Coon Rapids" is derived from an Ojibwe word meaning "the place where a moose lives." The first settler in what would become Coon Rapids was Andrew Dixon in 1853. By 1865 there were twenty settlers living in what would become Coon Rapids. In 1876 John Forster moved his family to Coon Rapids from Duluth. Over time there were more families moving into what became Coon Rapids including ones from Waterville, Minnesota which was adjacent to present-day Rochester. In 1907 when Ramsey County was created it included part of present-day Cochrane Township which had been part of Waterville since 1837. When that township was abolished in 1912 it included all of present-day Rochester except for a small piece that became part of Bloomington. In 1915 when World War I started America's entry into World War I patriotic sentiment ran high as America had been neutrality during most of its history up until then. There were several large events taking place throughoutMinnesota Governor James Cox called an emergency general election for November 3rd with no questions asked about who should be put into office due to public sentiment towards President Wilson's war effort Despite predictions by some that America would enter into war on Europe's side Austria began bombing targets within 100 miles (160 kilometers) of Bucharest so on November 8th American citizens across the Midwest woke up to learn their country had gone over to Austria's side and war was now underway! Of course not everyone felt this way as many believed Wilson could have negotiated a ceasefire if he wanted – after all he'd been president for four years! Despite these thoughts many people voted for Governors Jens Rohde (DFL) and David Haig (AAP) who both declared themselves pro-war even though they didn't actually support Wilson's decision making process

By 1875, Coon Rapids had over 1,500 residents and had begun developing into a commercial center with a banking sector and several manufacturing businesses. In 1907, Coon Rapids became the headquarters of Northern Pacific Railroad. This strategic location allowed Northern Pacific to expand its operations westward while also marketing Coon Rapids as an important agricultural center. The railroad continued to play an important role inCoon Rapids until it closed down in 1970. A variety of industries have since thrived inCoon Rapids: medical equipment manufacturer Baxter Healthcare; trucking company Ryder Trucking; software company Microsoft; insurance company AIG; grocery store Metro Market.; engineering firm White & Case; and clothing store Bebe's outlet mall.). In recent years, Coon Rapids has seen strong growth potential due to its location within minutes of major metropolitan areas across the Twin Cities region. This is especially true for its gaming industry which has seen significant growth due to new venues such as Target Field (the home of the Minnesota Twins) and MINnPAT Stadium (home of Minneapolis Vikings). Some of the most iconic buildings from Coon Rapids history are Second Presbyterian Church (built 1892), Masonic Temple (1895), Post Office (1896), Girdershield Mill (1905), Eastern Avenue School House (1906), County Courthouse Annex (1907) and Main Street Methodist Episcopal church building completed in 1909-10 (). Today few if any original buildings remain from this era but they continue to be used as museum exhibits or tourist destinations.
