Coon Rapids is a small town in the U.S. state of Minnesota, located at the intersection of Interstate 94 and County Road 97. The population was 1,503 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The first settlers in Coon Rapids were Swedish farmers who arrived from Sverige in 1851 and named their farm "Forsbacka". The name originated from Cootch Creek which flows through the town. In 1876, John Nolen bought land near what is now downtown Coon Rapids and built a log cabin called "Nolen's Ark". In 1896, he sold his properties to Ladd & Company for $6000 dollars and began to build what would become known as Ladd's Store which still stands today on Main Street in downtown Coon Rapids. In 1905, David Lowry bought land east of downtown from Ladd & Company and started to build a house which would be called Lowry's House today. In 1912, he married Anna Jansson and moved into his new home with her. They had two children: Margareta (1912-2001) and Lars (1914-2008). In 1916, they acquired more property east of downtown from Lowry & Company so they could start building their own house again but this time they call it "Ladd's Addition" because it was added on to their original home later on! In 1922, they acquired another piece of property east of downtown from Lowry & Company so they could begin construction on their third house! This house still stands today - it has been designated as a National Historic Landmark! In 1945, Sven Olson purchased 3 acres west of downtown from Ladd & Company so he could begin construction on his dream home which would eventually become known as " Olson's Place". The home remains standing today - it has been designated as a National Historical Landmark! After SVOlson passed away in 1968, his wife continued working on her dream house even though she didn't have any children left to help take care of things; she finally completed it in 1984 when her death allowed for its completion without any problems! Today, you can walk up to your old stepfather’s old homestead where you spent many happy childhood Saturdays playing by the creek while mom prepared dinner or go skiing or snowmobiling right outside your door... all thanks to SVOlson’s vision that helped make our town what it is today!

Coon Rapids, Minnesota is a small town in the geographic area of Anoka County, Minnesota. The population was 1,854 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The name Coon Rapids comes from Potawatomi Chief Coon's camp on the south side of what is now Coon Rapids Lake. In 1853, Reverend James Gamble founded a mission here and named it after his benefactor, Abraham Lincoln. The first white settler in what is now Coon Rapids was Augustus Ottis who arrived in 1858 and built a log cabin on the north shore of Coon Rapids Lake. He also raised horses and hogs there before permanent colonization began in 1860 when Isaac Sennett purchased land here from Ottis and others for $2,000 cash. This was one of several early settlements along what would become known as either River Road or Pioneer Road northward from Mankato to Stroudsburg (now Duluth). Pioneer Road passed through present-day Coon Rapids on its way to Mankato where it crossed into Anoka County and continued west until reaching Interstate 95 just east of today's downtown Minneapolis/Saint Paul. At that point, Pioneer Road turned southwesterly back towards Mankato while River Road followed modern day Highway 6 southeast from downtown Minneapolis until reaching its end at Riverside Boulevard outside downtown Saint Paul less than two miles north of today's Rochester Regional Airport boundary line. It has been said that pioneer man did not like being near water so they built their cabins high up on hillsides which made them very inaccessible To potential squatters or raiders during their early days in this vast new country
Coon Rapids was founded in 1858 by the Rasmuson brothers. The town was named after their father, Coon Rapids, a Norwegian settler who had come to America in 1846. The Rasmusons were farmers and later became merchants. In 1870, they built the first log cabin in what is now Coon Rapids. They also developed a wool industry and raised chickens and pigs. The Rasmusons were among the first people to establish churches in the area and built two churches, one of which still stands today. They also donated land for a school district and donated money for other needs such as libraries, hospitals, schools, and roads. In 1912, the family sold their business interests in Coon Rapids to Jens Jensen.
