The Chaska National Guard was established on December 5, 1912 in Chaska, Minnesota as the 9th Infantry Regiment. The regiment served in World War I and the II World War. It was redesignated the 131st Infantry Regiment on October 1, 1940 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. On September 20, 1945, the regiment was disbanded and its members were absorbed into other units of the National Guard. The history of national guard gift programs in Chaska began with a donation by Mrs. J.D. Bemis to the town of Chaska on November 25, 1914 as a token of appreciation for her help with local fundraising efforts for war purposes during WWI. The town donated five rifles and fifty rounds of ammunition to the national guard that same year as part of a larger gift program which included contributions from many different citizens throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin. In 1916 two more rifle donations were made to the national guard by Mrs. Bemis’ husband Drury Bemis Jr., also a prominent chaser who lived near Battle Creek, Michigan at that time! These donations represented an important milestone in national guard gift history because they helped establish long-term trust between community members and our military personnel through shared experience and memories when it came time for their next deployment or training mission overseas! After WWII ended there was a lull in gifts until 1949 when Mrs. Lillian Larson donated $1,500 to help purchase new equipment for our unit! This donation demonstrated not only support but also excitement about future opportunities to contribute to our community’s defense needs! In 1956 another significant donation was made when Mr. Geo Fenton donated $5,000 towards purchasing armor for our unit! This donation once again showed community involvement – this time towards providing physical protection against potential attack! In 1958 another major giftwas made when MrSherry Hennepin contributed $10,000 towards Purchasing armored vehicles for our unit! As mentioned earlier this donor had been very active both within his own community (through donations) as well as donating money to other organizations throughout Iowa prior to making this large contribution towardsArmor purchases within Minnesota specifically!!! From 1959-1973 nearly every major gift has been made by individuals or families member(s) of local residents who live(d) within walking distance or close enough drive(s) of various military installations/units stationed withinMinnesota!! The Chaska National Guard was organized on December 12, 1916. It was the first national guard unit in Minnesota. The unit served until it was disbanded on July 1, 1949.
Chaska is a town in Pope County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 781 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Chaska was founded in 1857 by Danish immigrants who named it "Skjolde". The first post office was established in Chaska on July 24, 1857, and opened with twenty-four mailbags. The name "Chaska" means "the place where the creek empties into the river." In 1870, Jonas Dahlquist set up a lumberyard near Chaska and began to sell logs downstream to be chopped down and used for posts and rails on the Canadian Pacific Railway. By 1886, he had built an artificial ice plant in Chaska that manufactured more than one million blocks of ice each day for delivery to customers in Toronto and Montreal. In 1907, Jens Jensen became president of First National Bank of Chaska; his brother Sigurd later became vice president. In 1922, Frits Olsen took over as bank president from Jens Jensen. In 1951, Dale Rasmussen started an agricultural store in Chaska that would grow into what is now Nordstrom's Department Store Incorporated (NDSI). In 1957, Poul Pedersen assumed leadership of NDSI after his father resigned from its board because he did not support secession from Canada during the Conflict Resolution Act referendum campaign of 1956. When Poul Pedersen retired as CEO effective December 1st 2006 he relinquished all ownership shares but continued as director until his death on March 5th 2007 having served since 1978 when Nordstrom merged with department stores Carlson's (later Kmart) and Montgomery Ward (now Macy's). From 1978 until 2006 Poul Pedersen also served as President emeritus/director emeritus/Chairman Emeritus/Director Emeritus for Nordstrom Department Stores USA Inc., which operated under both names until December 1st 2006 when it merged with Kroger Co., Incorporated to form Macy's Corporation . As head of Nordstrom Department Stores USA Inc., Poul Pedersen oversaw nearly two hundred stores throughout North America including 84 international stores serving 36 different countries including Russia (), Austria (), Spain (), Italy (until 1984), Portugal (), Switzerland ()and UK (). He also developed or acquired new brands such as Saks Fifth Avenue Home & Gents (), Neiman Marcus ()and Lord & Taylor (). He was honored with awards such as Lifetime Achievement Award from Retail Merchants Association(RMA), George Mitchell Award by American Marketing Foundation(AMI), Horatio Alger Award by New York Institute Of Technology(NYIT), Life Member American Federation Of Independent Business(AFIB)). Poulsens last day at company was August 15th 2006 after 143 years continuous service
