The history of the Army in Chaska, Minnesota goes back to 1881. It was during this time that the first soldiers arrived to help with the construction of a new prison in Chaska. The prison was completed and used for many years until it was replaced by a more recent structure in 1957. Shortly after the completion of the new prison, Chaska residents voted to establish an Army Base within their town. This decision allowed for the activation of the Army Barracks on Main Street in 1909. The barracks were used as barracks for army units until 1942 when they were converted into a civilian jail. In 1951, the Chaska Chamber of Commerce approached representatives from the Minnesota National Guard about creating an honor guard unit for state functions. The request was approved and Troop D became one of the first military units to serve at state functions in Chaska. Since its inception, Troop D has served as an important part of community life in Chaska and has made numerous local contributions such as hosting numerous events throughout year including Remembrance Day Parade and Christmas Tree lighting ceremonies. Chaska, Minnesota is a town located in the Canadian province of Manitoba. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. Chaska was founded in 1871 by Danish immigrants and became a city in 1927. It is the county seat of Chaska County. The town has a rich Norwegian history dating back to the early 1800s when Scandinavian immigrants began arriving in Chaska from various parts of Norway. One of these immigrants, Peder Larsen, named his new settlement Chaska after his native land, Sverige (Sweden). In 1871, Larsen and his family settled on an area that would later become known as Chaska Township. The first settlers were farmers who grew corn, wheat and potatoes for local consumption or export to other towns in Manitoba. Over time, however, the agricultural industry declined and Chaska turned into a small town filled with Scandinavian families who engaged in manufacturing such as textiles and housings. In 1927, Chaska became part of Winnipeg metropolitan area which led to increased commercial activity within the town itself as well as neighboring municipalities such as Stonewall Junction and North Battleford. As more people moved into the area during this time period, smaller businesses were unable to keep up with demand and filed for bankruptcy or closed their doors completely.
