In the early 1900s, Chaska had a small air force. The first Air Service Squadron was organized in 1909, and by 1912 it had become an all-volunteer organization. By 1916, the air force had two squadrons with three airplanes each. In 1917, the 1st Minnesota Volunteer Cavalry Regiment was created as part of the First World War and served in France as ground troops. During World War I, when there was no navy or military presence in Chaska, citizens helped build an airfield using logs and branches from trees cut down around town. The first planes arrived in 1919 and were used for scouting and training purposes until 1924 when they were replaced by Boeing 707s. The Second World War started on September 3rd 1940 when Germany attacked Norway along with five other countries including Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Latvia and Lithuania. Chaska was not immediately impacted since its airport was located six miles north of the city limits on a piece of land leased from the government for that purpose. However, within hours of the attack starting ten buildings were destroyed including one airbase which housed all of Chaska's planes as well as most of its personnel. On October 2nd 1940 German bombers hit Chaska killing sixteen people (ten civilians and four military) and injuring seventy-eight others before departing back to their bases across Scandinavia without stopping over night at our airport which continued to function under emergency conditions even after being bombed during those attacks. Chaska's wartime role ended in 1945 when Sweden ceded control of Nordland County to Norway following their victory over Nazi Germany at Elba Bay on May 8th 1945. After Norwegian independence was declared on August 15th 1948 things changed again with Sweden coming into control over parts of Nordland County which included Chaska proper making it once again an enemy country within our borders although this time it wasn't called Nazi Germany anymore but rather Sweden - something that never happened during nor after WWII! Since then things have been more or less normal here except for a brief spike in activity during 2006-2007 due to NATO exercises taking place nearby but that has generally tapered off since then (although some small jets still fly out there occasionally). Currently there is only one active squadron operational here -the 141st Airlift Wing (Air National Guard) - which provides support for local search & rescue operations as well as providing transport services between Champlin AFB south east of Minneapolis/St Paul International Airport (MSP) and various locations near Duluth/Superior airports such as Duluth Regional Airport (DRU), Superior Municipal Airport (SUA),and Miles City Regional Airport (MCE). There are also a few civilian aircraft based at Champlin AFB but these are primarily used for occasional charter flights or research projects flown out by students from nearby colleges etc... Although currently mothballed because Of limited use taxpayers will continue to pay for its upkeep through lease agreements signed back in 2007 with current operators maintenance fees currently set at $2 million per year however I believe this number could be raised if needed given current times so keep your eyes peeled!

Chaska is a small town in Chaska County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The first settlers in Chaska were farmers who arrived around 1858. The post office was founded in 1885 and named for John Chaska, a pioneer settler. In 1902, a sawmill and grist mill were built in the town and operated until 1958. In 1925, Chaska had its own school system which served students from kindergarten through eighth grade. In 1955, the community joined the growing Minneapolis-St. Paul school district which now includes Chaska as one of its four districts along with Eden Prairie (East Bloomington), Hennepin Hills (Mankato), and White Bear Lake (Winnipeg). Chaska's municipal government changed from a township to an incorporated village on November 3, 1959 following approval by voters via referendum Charter Amendment #2b%. The first mayor was Jocko Ladd and the current mayor is Randy Schmidt
