Chanhassen is a city in U.S. Minnesota, located on the Mississippi River. The population was 25,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area and is the county seat of Chanhassen County. The town was named for Captain William Mclntyre Chanhassen, who fought with General Winfield Scott against Tecumseh in 1812 and 1813. Chanhassen was platted in 1830 by John Aiken and others as a small village on what would become Chanhassen Township (later Chanhassen County), about southeast of Minneapolis on State Highway 722 near modern-day Maple Grove and Bloomington Roads. Chanhassen grew rapidly during the early days of railroads in Minnesota; it became a town in 1856 when tracks were extended to it from Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania via Rochester, Minnesota. After becoming an incorporated city in 1881, it annexed two adjacent townships (Oakdale and Cottage Grove) in 1897 due to its growth as an agricultural center with a large population of poultry farmers and other livestock producers; after World War II it developed into one of the most heavily urbanized communities in America due to rapid suburbanization throughout much of ruralMinnesota following war production restrictions

Chanhassen is a small town in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It is located in the northeast corner of Ramsey County, about 11 miles (17 km) north-northwest of Minneapolis and just over 8 miles (12 km) east-southeast of Chanhassen Center, the largest shopping center in Ramsey County. The population was 5,956 at the 2010 census.[1] The town was founded by Finnish settlers in 1858. The name comes from French chanter meaning "to sing".[2][3] At one time, Chanhassen had a post office with its own ZIP code,[4] but that service was discontinued in 1984. As of the 2010 census, its only resident is Nancy Ritchie, who also serves as town administrator and clerk for the Village of Chanhassen.[5][6] Chanhassen has been inhabited by Native Americans since prehistory. In 1763, traders established trading posts here along what is now Stroudsburg Road. By 1800, there were several settlements here including Saint Paul's Landing on Forest Lake which served as the village's main stop onloading goods arriving via canoe fromriverboats landing at present day Wabasha Point on Stillwater Creek[7]. In 1858, when Congress passed an act allowing provisional US states to form their own governments without United States consent,[8], two Finnish settlers set out fromSaintPaul's Landing to establish a community called Honka – named after a nearby waterfall – near present day Chanhassen Center[9]. They began construction on a log cabin and storehouse near what is now Hennepin Avenue and Second Street; it became known as Honka Hall [10]. With few exceptions throughout Minnesota Territory during this period,[11], all towns within 12 miles (19 km) of Minneapolis were founded through settlement efforts by individuals or groups seeking to establish new homes outside US jurisdiction pending annexation by that city or county[12]). When territorial boundaries were redrawn following Minnesota’s admission into the Union as a state in 1909,[13] what today forms Chanhassen occurred within newly created White Earth Township south of Maplewood; inhabitants thereof continued to refer to themselves as “the PEOPLE OF WHITE EARTH TOWNSHIP” even though they technically lay within(and still do so) Ramsey County[14]). In 1912–13 white earth residents organized an unsuccessful referendum requesting addition of their township to Ramsey County; they argued that because they constituted more than half of all people living within White Earth Township while lying entirely within Ramsey County proper(i.e., not part of any tribal lands), their interests should be considered insofar as county coffers were concerned[15]; however, no such referendum took place until 1959 after which time White Earth Township remained under Ramsey Countianship.[16] n/a
Chanhassen is located in Chanhassen Township, Minnesota. The town was founded on December 10, 1854, by a group of Germans who had come to the United States as part of the Dakota Battalion during the American Civil War. The community was named for Heinrich de Chanhassen, an early settler. The first school in Chanhassen was built in 1855 and operated until 1886. A second school was built in 1887 and operated until 1915. A third school was built in 1918 and operated until 1939. In 1946, Chanhassen became a city after it passed an ordinance allowing for municipal government. In 1957, the city annexed neighboring towns of Deerfield and Hutchinson. In 2001, the city merged with neighboring town of Hutchinson to form one larger municipality called Chanhassen-Hutchinson Town Center.
