The Chanhassen Air Force Base is home to the Minnesota Air National Guard's 122nd Airlift Wing. The wing is responsible for performing global airlift missions, including providing refueling and lift support for federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. Its Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft are also used for a variety of other military and civilian purposes. The 122nd Wing has been active in the gift history of the Chanhassen AFB since its inception. During World War II, the wing was activated as the 5th Bombardment Group (Medium) and served in England, Africa, Southwest Asia and Guam before returning to Chanhassen in 1945. From 1948-1951, the wing was redesignated as the 6th Bombardment Wing (Heavy). In 1951-1954 it was again redesignated as the 122nd Airlift Wing (Airlift), which remain today. In 1957, a Boeing 747 became part of the wing's inventory when it was redistributed from California to Minneapolis following its acquisition by the Minnesotan Air National Guard. The 747 has been used extensively at Chanhassen throughout its history including being converted into an all-weather landing strip capable of hosting fighter aircraft during Operationdenial in 1992. Additionally, various other types of aircraft have been stationed at Chanhassen ranging from fixed wings to helicopters and even drones! Today, both ground units and jet assets are based at Chanhassen AFB with a wide range of capabilities available should something need to be transported urgently or deployed worldwide! These include: Global Hawk aerial Surveillance; Rutger Hauer Combat Rescue Helicopter Squadron; Kfz 251(t) Kubelwagen armored personnel carrier squadron; Hughes 707 turboprop airliner squadron; E-2C Hawkeye airborne early warning system squadron; C-130 Hercules transport squadron; AIM-9 Sidewinder air defense missile squadron."

The town name comes from French chanhasserie, meaning "a place where nuts are gathered." The first settler in Chanhassen was John Laughlin who arrived there with his family on July 9, 1876. He purchased land north of the current town line and built a cabin that still stands today as a museum to commemorate his journey. Chanhassen began to grow rapidly due to its location on the river which led to many businesses being opened up and contributed to its growth over time including a lumberyard, grocery store, bank, hotel and more importantly its churches which continue to play an important role in community life today. It’s also no secret that Chanhassen has always been tightly knit with one another thanks to their close-knit Dutch culture which continues to influence day-to-day lives here even into modern times with things like car sales taking place right outside of local pubs/bars!

Chanhassen is a small town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It lies on the banks of the Missouri River, southwest of Minneapolis. The community was platted in 1879 by John Chanhassen and his brother-in-law Alexander Mennonite settlers from Russia. The name "Chanhassen" is thought to be derived from the Swedish word han (meaning "a bend"), similar to the name of nearby Rochester, Minnesota. Chanhassen post office was established in 1881, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1934. The first store in Chanhassen opened on Main Street in 1881; it closed about 1911 due to lack of business interest. A second store opened on Third Avenue near Presentation Road in 1912. The town had two schools from 1881 until 1915: one for white students and one for black students; both were disbanded after being closed by state government funding cuts that year. In 1935, Chanhassen became an independent city when it merged with neighboring Maplewood into a single municipality under local government law; however, its status as an incorporated village remains unchanged today. In 1990, a new shopping mall called Mall of Asia opened adjacent to downtown Chanhassen; it served as the anchor tenant until 2001 when Sears Holdings Corporation left the mall citing economic reasons. In 2002–2003, Park Plaza Shopping Center replaced Mall of Asia as downtown's primary shopping center; this center has since been joined by several more anchors including Macy's and JCPenny's stores over time).
