Champlin is a small town located in western Minnesota. It was founded in 1854 by Isaac Champlin and his wife, Sarah. The Champlins were the first white family to live in what is now Champlin Township. They set up a farm and grew corn, cattle, and other crops. In 1907, when the Champlin family passed away, their land was deeded to the town of Champlin by their son-in-law, John Ladd. The town has since grown with various businesses established and new homes built.
Champlin was founded in 1881 by Norwegian immigrants, Ole Champlin and his wife, Astrid. The Champlins ran a general store and post office until they sold the business in 1907 to John H. Schaefer. In 1912, Schaefer built the first large house on the site of today's Champlin Elementary School. He continued to operate the business until his death in 1957. The Schaefers left their home and all their possessions to the school district in 1961. Today, the school is open to students from Pre-K through 12th grades.
