The history of the Champlin Army Airfield can be traced back to World War I. The United States First Infantry Division was activated in 1918 and saw action in Europe as part of the Allied Expeditionary Force. After the war, Champlin became a training ground for new American soldiers and airmen. It would remain in use untilactivated by the US military in 1947. Though little is known about the gift history of the airfield, it is clear that it has been an important part of military life in Champlin for many years. One example is the restoration of the old Hangar A which served as both a storage and operations hangar during World War II. This hangar also played host to aerial demonstrations by local businesses such as Boeing Aircraft Corporation during wartime times. In addition to its importance as a training ground and airport, Champlin Army Airfield also served as home to various USAF components during peacetime periods including: 1st Fighter Wing (1946-1950), 8th Airlift Wing (1948-1951), 9th Tactical Missile Wing (1960-1964), 10th Tactical Missile Wing (1972-1976) and 11th Special Operations Squadron (1981-1983). These units provided air support for law enforcement, search & rescue, peacekeeping missions, etc. In recent years, additional USAF units have stationed at Champlin including: 12th Security Forces Squadron (2006-2008), 13th Airlift Squadron (2009-2011) and 14th Aeronautics Maintenance Squadron (2013). Despite these sacrifices over many years, there still remains much that makes Chaminl Army Airfield special; for example, its location overlooking Waite Lake gives it perfect access to airspace used by both civilian and military aircrafts; its unique Runway configuration allows for easy taxiing/takeoff/landing; and most importantly its rich history which cannot be found anywhere else within this large community.

Champlin is a small town in the state of Minnesota. It is located about seventy-five miles west of Minneapolis, and about twenty-five miles east of Sioux Falls. The population was 2,948 at the 2000 census. Champlin is part of the Duluth–Superior County School District. The first settler in Champlin was John Aiken who came to this area in 1864. James Fenton landed on the present site of Champlin in 1868 and built a log cabin. Wm Hennepin arrived here in 1870, and his farm became one of the most extensive in this region. In 1875, David Sitton settled here and made his home on an estate that still stands today. The town started as a Quaker meeting place called "Fordsville." In 1886, two men named Wescott and Beavers founded an agricultural society which they called "The Farmers' Association." They donated land for a school building which was completed in 1888. In 1893,ruction began on what would become the first courthouse in Champlin. That same year, JnoMoses Holland organized a Methodist church here which served as the town's first Pastor from 1889 until 1901 when he resigned to go back to Indiana because of health concerns He later served as General Manager for First National Bank . In 1902, Phebe Hanson married Rev (George) Harwood who moved from Mount Vernon to start her own Methodist church here . Reverend Hanson also built a schoolhouse which serve as both our current Main Street Elementary School and Our Lady Of Victory Catholic Church . Reverend Hanson's widow continued using portions of their home as their parish center until it burned down completely around 1998 From 1907 until 1935 there was only one store open with no commerce taking place due to World War I shortages caused by Chicago financial collapse; this store closed when local farmers stopped selling goods needed for war production like flour After World War II ended demand decreased again so development begins again with several stores opening during 50s including Tractor Supply Center , Hardware Store & more since then! Today we have 5 banks/finance company/commerce type businesses/2 pizza places&gas station

After Confederate forces burned down their house in 1865, the Champlins moved to Duluth, Minnesota where they started a grocery store. The Champlins are credited with helping to create Duluth as an important city in northern Minnesota. They also donated land to make Duluth a town and founded the University of Minnesota there in 1886. The Champlin family is still alive and has resided in Champlin since 1915. John Champlin Jr., who was born in 1919, is the grandson of John Champlin Sr., who founded Chambly Paper Company (now known as Pioneer Paper).
