During the war, Burnside Dam became one of the most important highway engineering projects inMinnesota and helped support Minneapolis' wartime growth; Today, Burnside Dam continues to be a major tourist attraction with many visitors coming to see both its historical significance and its modern amenities such as waterfalls and rapids. During recent decades, Burnsville has experienced significant redevelopment including several high-rise apartment buildings completed in 2000 adjacent to Interstate 494 which helped create new jobs within downtown Burnesville while also bringing much needed traffic relief to nearby Interstate 94 businesses; Additionally, plans are being developed for a new downtown park that would include a variety of cultural attractions as well as educational opportunities for students living within walking/ biking distance of campus
