The Marines deploying in Burnsville, Minnesota were not just any unit. They were part of the Marine Corps Expeditionary Force (MEF), which was activated on December 7th, 1941. The MEF was designed as a last-ditch effort to stop Japan from achieving military victory in the Pacific War. The MEF arrived in Burnsville on January 2nd, 1942 and quickly set up camp. The Marines soon began their long journey back to the United States. By February 1st, they had reached Stonington, Connecticut and were assembling their ships for transport back home. On March 3rd, 1942, the first Japanese planes attacked American forces in Guam. Within minutes, over 50 Marines had been killed or wounded. The Japanese attack enraged America and led to Prime Minister Franklin D Roosevelt authoring Executive Order 9066 which banned all discrimination against Japanese Americans living in the United States. Despite this ban, many Japanese Americans continued to live among their compatriots during World War II. In fact, many of these people became active members of the Marine Corps and played an important role during the war years. For example, Kenichi Matsubara served as a lieutenant colonel with distinction during World War II and is known for his participation in Operation Shōkaku (1944). He is also credited with saving more than 2,000 lives by leading raids into enemy territory.
The Marine Corps has been deploying gift cards and other forms of small presents to Marines since the early 1990s. The purpose is twofold: to thank Marines for their service and also to provide a tangible acknowledgment of appreciation. One recent example is the distribution of "Thank You" gift cards to Marines deployed in support of Operation Neptune's Spear, which was launched in July 2003. The cards are distributed at military installations around the world, as well as online at marines.com/thankyou. Another recent deployment was for the Christmas season in 2013. The Marine Forces Europe (MFE) distributed 15,000 Thank You gift cards to Marines stationed throughout Europe during that year's holiday season. These were given out as part of an effort by MFE to show appreciation for all that Marines do while they are deployed overseas. The Marine Corps has also been distributing "At Home" gift cards since 2004, when they first began sending thesecards directly to troops stationed home from deployments abroad. These cards are sent through postal mail and typically include items such as groceries or toys for children who may be living on their own behalf while their parents are away on duty.
The Marines of Company C, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment deployed in Burnsville on October 7th, 2013. They brought along a gift for the residents of the community - a large T-shirt with the battalion's insignia and motto printed on it.
Burnsville is a city in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 21,876 at the 2010 census. Burnsville is the county seat of Ramsey County. It lies on the east side of the Mississippi River and is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1851 by John Burns and his family as a small settlement on Hennepin Creek near present-day Burnsville Heights. In 1871, when Ramsey County was created, Burnsville became its first town and continued to be so until it merged with neighboring Stearns to form the new city in 1965. Burnsville's original nucleus were mainly farmers and their families who grew corn, wheat, oats, potatoes, fruit trees, vegetables and flowers for local markets. Today many manufacturing businesses still call Burnsville home such as Molten Brownies (founded 1947), Eastman Kodak (founded 1865), First National Bank (founded 1888), United Canning Works (founded 1913) and RegionsBank (chartered 1889). Additionally there are several restaurants including Chili’s Grill & Bar (opened 1959), Red Lobster (opened 1974) and Golfsmith Golf Course which have helped make BurnsVILLE one of America’s most vibrant downtown areas today!

Today, the Marines are one of the most decorated units in America with many medals, awards and commendations. One of the earliest Marine deployments was to Tripoli, Libya in 1875. The Marines served until World War II when they were stationed in various countries around the world. They fought in every major war between America and other nations including World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Today, there are 4500 marines spread out across more than 60 countries supported by an army of over 100,000 soldiers. The Marines serve as protectors of our nation and its people or support operations such as counterterrorism or disaster relief. In 2011, they also became part of NATO which gave them new responsibilities within their alliance. As marines we have a long historyof giving back to society through philanthropy and volunteerism both inside and outside the Marine Corps itself. In 2006, marines donated 105 tons of supplies to tsunami-hit Indonesia which helped provide food for 3000 families for three weeks afterwards Additionally, marine forces have responded quickly and effectively to earthquakes throughout California including during January’s devastating Northern California earthquake . In honor of their service to country these past few decades it seems appropriate that marine forces present annually at military functions wear special olive drab clothing known as Combat Infantryuniform (CIU) which was created in 1942 by then Colonel Harry Summers who designed it following his experience serving with USMC Infantry Battalion 3rd Mar Div at Iwo Jima during World War II This unique uniform has since been adopted by all U.S., UK & Australian armed forces members deploying overseas

Burns, who had been born in 1794 in Scotland and died on July 12, 1872 in San Francisco, California during the Mexican War (1846-48). In 1861, when Minneapolis was incorporated as a city, Burnsville became part of that city's boundaries. The first post office opened in Burnsville on January 6, 1865. The towns of Brooklyn Center and Eden Prairie were created from parts of Burnsville by consolidation on February 15, 1907. The name change came about becauseBrooklyn Center was near the edge of what would later become Minneapolis while Eden Prairie was further east and within what would later become St. Paul
