The Burnsville Marine Museum is a museum dedicated to the history of the Burnsville Shipyards. The shipyards were located in Burnsville from 1895 until 1951. During that time, the Burnsville Shipyards produced over 100 vessels, many of which are still in use today.
Burnsville is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 5,028 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area. The name Burnsville comes from George Washington's estate in Alexandria, Virginia where he and his wife Martha resided during their presidency (1799-1800). The estate's owner, Nicholas Sparks, found the name pleasing and decided to adopt it for his own community in 1803. In 1838, John A. Burnett purchased what would become the town site from Nicholas Sparks. Burnett named it after General James Armstrong Burnet who had been killed during the Mexican–American War on October 20 of that year. The first post office was established at Burnsville on February 14th, 1836; it closed on December 12th of that same year due to lack of customers. By 1862, when a new post office was constructed at Antioch east of town (the present day intersection of Hennepin Avenue and State Highway 56), Burnsville had reached its peak with a population of 10 inhabitants. However by 1870 there were only 3 residents living in town and by 1880 there were only 1 inhabitant remaining in town; both businesses had closed down by then. In 1907burnsville built its first school which still stands today as one of the most important aspects our community has come together for over 175 years!

Burnsville is a city in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 9,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Ramsey County. The name comes from John Burns and his family's farmstead called "Burnsville". The first settlers in what is now Burnsville were farmers who arrived in 1851. They named their land "Burnsville" after John Burnes, an early settler. The town was founded on December 12, 1871 by J.P. Morrill and other farmers as a result of the Minnesota Act of 1870 which granted lands to settlers within certain boundaries. In 1870, there were only five families living in Burnsville; by 1910 there were over 30 families residing there. The city became a municipality on January 1, 1907 following a vote by the city council members. At that time it had a population of 2,512 people and consisted of 8 blocks with a total area of . On July 1, 1916 the City Council passed an ordinance annexing unincorporated farmland lying east of I-35W to the City limits creating what is now northwest corner of Southeast Sixth Avenue and Northeast Twenty-second Street (the present day northeast corner of Northwest First Street and Southwest Seventh Avenue). This annexation increased the size and population of the city by more than 20%. The current downtown core was built on top of an ancient Native American settlement dating back to before European Settlement began in this area according to Historical Marker #5 near University Boulevard & State Highway 6 interchange
Burnsville was founded in 1849 by John Armstrong and Stephen A. Carlson, two of the first white men to settle in what is now Minnesota. The town grew quickly, thanks to its location on the banks of the Mississippi River and its access to resources such as lumber and minerals. By 1870, Burnsville had a population of over 2,000 people. The city's growth continued through the years, led by its booming industry which included manufacturing goods such as radios and automobiles. In 1956, Burnsville became the first municipality in Minnesota to adopt a municipal charter. At that time, it had a population of over 10,000 people. However, during the 1960s and 1970s, Burnsville experienced some significant economic instability due to shifts in mining interests and technological advances that created new opportunities for businesses but also increased competition from other municipalities. In 1984, Burnside merged with neighboring Rochester to form the present-day Rochester-Burnside metropolitan area. This merger caused many jobs within Burnside to move out into surrounding suburbs while leaving most of the city's industrial buildings vacant or abandoned; this left Burnside as one of Minneapolis' poorest neighborhoods. In recent years, however, burnside has made great strides forward with a concerted effort by local officials and community groups to revitalize the neighborhood and make it more aware of its history and potential for progress. For example, they have started an annual walk/run called "The Streets That Stand" which engages residents in historical walks around their neighborhoods; they also partnered with Minneapolis Community College (MCC) in 2016 to create a summer college program that offers hands-on learning about local businesses and economy from business owners themselves.
