The Minnesota Air National Guard's 413th Fighter Wing, also known as the "Red Bulls" of Burnsville, was founded on November 15, 1942. The wing was activated at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio and arrived in Minneapolis on December 3rd. In its early years the wing operated Republic P-47 Thunderbolts from what is now Mayo Field. In 1944 the wing transferred to Dowden AFB in Omaha, Nebraska and began operating Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighters. In 1946 the wing moved to RAF Watton near Salisbury Plain England where it flew Lockheed C-47 Skytrains until 1949 when it transitioned to Boeing EC-121 Constellation transports. On October 1st 1950 the 414th Fighter Squadron became operational with North American DC-3s and continued flying these aircraft until 1953 when they were replaced by McDonnell Douglas MD-8s. In 1954 the wing transitioned back to Lockheed C-118 Shooting stars which continued until 1957 when they were replaced by McDonnell Douglas DC-4s which served through 1975. On January 17th 1978 USAF personnel of 416th FW opened a new maintenance facilities at Chanhassen AFB after being closed for many years due to budget cuts within Randolph AFB. This led directly to increased operations within the 413th FW since their own maintenance hangar had been inadequate for modern fighter jets.

Burnsville is a city in Minnesota, United States. The population was 20,815 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Ramsey County and is bordered by Bloomington to the north, St. Cloud to the east, Maplewood to the south, and Burnsville Heights to the west. The town was founded in 1856 by John Witherspoon from England as a fur-trading post on an ancient Mississippian Indian trail leading from Fort Snelling in Minneapolis to Buffalo Bayou in what is now Houston County. The post office was named for John Burnside (1772–1854), a Scottish immigrant who had arrived there about 1825. A sawmill and gristmill were built nearby in 1857; these remains are now part of downtown Burnsville. The first school was organized here on February 16, 1859; it became known as East High School (now Roosevelt High School) after president Franklin D. Roosevelt attended its first class meeting that year. In 1865, a post office called "Montrose" was established at this site; it changed its name to "Burnsville" in 1867 when it became part of Ramsey County. In 1870, William Dixon acquired 5200 acres (2 km²) of land northeast of present-day Burnsville along with other properties worth $27000 which he donated to Ramsey County free of charge because he believed that township government should be based upon common interests rather than personal wealth or individual advantagesitism. This gift helped form what would become today's nucleus of Burnsville Township with land values eventually reaching $22500 per acre ($640/km²). In 1902, Drury Bros., undertakers and real estate developers who had earlier developed Iron Mountain Village into one of Minnesotan's largest cities outside Minneapolis offered cash for 2 miles (3 km) of woods between North Dakota Avenue and Broadway Avenue including all present-day BurnsVILLE except for sections lying within Renfrew Township Municipality limits which they purchased from Peter Kropotkin for $8000 per mile ($1600/km²). In 1916 when both rural fire districts were created within Ramsey County following statehood through an act passed by Governor Jesse Larimer – later renamed Minnesota Department of Agriculture – Burnett University opened its doors at what is now Burnside Elementary School campus just east of Interstate 94 near Park Road intersection where students currently attend Central Middle School located across I-94 from Pioneer High School on Woodward Avenue Extension northwestward from US Hwy 64 exit ramp off I-94 near Maplewood Cemetery local high school students attend recent expansions Douglas Elementary & South Park Elementary also located adjacent I-94 exit ramps off I-94 just past Greenfield Mall entrances close street addresses Homer Glen Parkway extension off interstate highway crossing Woodbury Cemetery entry Rd thence NNW 1/4 mile thru forest NW side stream flowing into Bass River
