The Coast Guard has been in operation in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota since 1912. The Coast Guard Station was first established on the shores of Lake Superior and is now headquartered at the Maritime Museum in downtown Brooklyn Park. The first Coast Guardsmen arrived in Brooklyn Park on October 12, 1912. At that time, it was a small town located on the shore of Lake Superior just north of Minneapolis. Since then, the Coast Guard Station has grown to include a variety of capabilities including helicopter transportation, maritime search and rescue operations, as well as providing security for shipping routes and harbors. Today, the Coast Guard Station plays an important role in our community by providing essential resources such as law enforcement and public safety. In addition to its station headquarters location, the Marine Museum offers visitors a unique perspective on maritime history through its collection of maritime artifacts from around the world.

The community was founded in 1881 by Norwegian immigrants and named after Brooklyn, New York City. It was incorporated as a village in 1915. The name change to Brooklyn Park when it became part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area and lost its city status. Brooklyn Park is located in northeastern Ramsey County on the shores of Lake Minnetonka, just south of Interstate 94 and east of Stinson Beach. It has a total area of , including . The townships that make up the town are: Brooklyn Heights, Clydesdale Heights, Forest Hills Estates, Hennepin Heights, Indian Head Hills, Maple Grove Estates, Riverhead Township and South Holland Township; all were organized before 1 January 2013 under MN lawSection 605C subchapter C (also known as " township form"). Brooklyn Park is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota, and it is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The population was 27,545 at the 2010 census, making it the sixth most populous city in Minnesota. Brooklyn Park is also home to Saint Anthony's Catholic Church which was dedicated in 1886 and has been serving the community since then. The city was named after Brooklyn, New York City, one of the original towns in Dakota Territory when it was organized as a territory on August 14, 1862. The first settler to come to what is now Brooklyn Park was John Akeley who arrived on July 11, 1868 while traveling through Dakota Territory on his way from West Fargo to Chicago via Missouri River crossing. He built a log cabin near what is now downtown Brooklyn Park on land he purchased from David Wheeler for $1/share in 1869. Brooklyn Park became an incorporated town on December 3rd of that year under the name "Dakota City" with voting privileges and an annual budget of $5,000 established by ordinance #2 passed by Town Council upon recommendation of Mayor Charles Hickey and approved by referendum vote taking place January 5th & 7th of 1870 (Only males were allowed to vote). In 1872 another ordinance created a School District #2 with responsibility for all education within its boundaries including public schools; Administration Building #1 (now known as Rice Middle School) had been constructed adjacent to First Presbyterian Church located at 131st Street & Lyndale Avenue in east Brooklyn Park just north of Interstate 994 along Lyndale Avenue where today's Rice Elementary School stands completed in 1934 following years worth $100K+ project funded primarily by Stated Funds donation from Mrs Anna Sanderson donated after her death during 1933-1934 school year - this building served as both Administration Building #1 & School District Headquarters until Borough EL disbanded Dakota City Schools effective February 6th 1920 due to 1) changing hands many times between various entities 2) lack or interest by Borough officials w/in former Borough limits
Brooklyn Park is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The park was first established in 1874 as a public square on the banks of the Mississippi River. In 1907, it became a national military reservation and was renamed Fort Snelling after Major General George Snelling, who served as commanding officer of the First Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Mexican-American War. The fort was decommissioned in 1912 and its site was used for housing until 1922 when it became part of Brooklyn Park. It reverted to its original name in 1951. From 1916 to 1929, Brooklyn Park was home to a U.S. Army Air Base which housed both bombers and fighter airplanes from America's allies during World War I and World War II. In 1963, the base was closed down and all planes were forwarded to nearby Wright-Patterson Air Force Base where they remain today.
