The Brooklyn Park Army Depot was founded in 1916 as the Minneapolis Army Ammunition Plant. The plant became the Brooklyn Park Armory in 1917, and then the Brooklyn Park Armory Ammunition and Firearms Factory in 1924. In 1934, the armory became a military post-secondary school, training enlisted men and Women's Auxiliary Corps soldiers for World War II. The armory closed its doors in 1969, but reopened as a museum in 1984. Today, the armory houses a variety of military artifacts from throughout Minnesota history. In 1941, when Nazi Germany invaded Poland, President Franklin D. Roosevelt ordered all American forces to be mobilized into the war effort. The army deployed 100ift of troops to Minnesota as part of Operation Neptune's Spear. American soldiers fought under General George Patton's Third Army throughout World War II. During their time in Minnesota, many American soldiers were decorated with medals and citations for their service during the war. One soldier who received many honors during his time at the armory was Private First Class John Wightman of Company C2/101st Infantry Regiment (the "Hollywood Battalion") who was awarded two Bronze Star Medals for heroism during battle at Krakow on September 16th 1944 while leading his platoon through an intense firefight against numerically superior German forces

The town quickly became an important transportation and manufactures center for the region, thanks to its location on the Mississippi River. In 1959, Brooklyn Park was annexed by Minneapolis. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, Brooklyn Park was a major agricultural center with many big farms and large manufacturing plants. The community had a strong social infrastructure that helped promote farming and industry throughout the region. Today, Brooklyn Park is home to a number of small businesses and families who have built their homes here over the years. There are also several heritage buildings located within the community that remain popular tourist destinations today. The history of Brooklyn Park can be traced back to 1881 when farmers from Minnesota set up shop near what is now downtown Minneapolis on land donated by Captain James Robertson. Soon, this small village grew into one of central Minnesota's most important transportation hubs, serving both locals and visitors alike with its Ferry Terminal (now called Nicollet Mall), boat dock, train station, post office, grocery store, etc. The town quickly became an important manufacturing center as well – thanks in part to its location on the Mississippi River Basin’s busy shipping lanes. In addition to local mills such as Wabasha & Hawkeye Mills (later sold to Acme Paper Products) and Stillwater Manufacturing Company (later Sargent Shriver Paper Company), other prominent companies included Hennepin Central Railway (later merged into Canadian Pacific Railroad), Minneapolis & St Paul Electric Railway (later MNP&E Railroad), Wabasha Coal Mining Company (which later closed down), etc. In 1959, when it was annexed by Minneapolis, Brooklyn Park had become one of America’s largest city-county merger settlements – comprising more than 575 townships/ villages in all! Over time, many of these communities have grown increasingly suburban or lost their rural character – but Brooklyn Park remains one of DowntownMINneapolis’ most vibrant neighborhoods today!

The town was destroyed by a fire on July 4th, 1903, which killed more than 100 people. Brooklyn Park is now a ghost town with few residents remaining.
