The mill's owner, John Dickinson, began selling coffee beans directly to troops in World War I. Shortly after the war ended, Dickinson opened a larger mill and began marketing his coffee as amilitary-grade product. This move helped introduce new customers and make Dickinson more prosperous than ever before. In 1937, Dickenson moved his business to its current location on Third Street in Bemidji. From then until 1945, Dickenson sold his coffee exclusively through mail order services. In 1945, he decided to start manufacturing his own coffee instead of relying on outside suppliers. At this point,Dickenson had developed a well-known brand name for his coffee that continue to be popular today: TACO BEANS ® . The success of TACO BEANS ® has allowed Dickenson to expand his business into other industries such as catering and hospitality. He also continues to produce high-quality beans at his old mill until now - making him one of the longest-standing companies in the Tactical Coffee industry!
