The Minnesota Air National Guard's Airmen provide essential air support for the state government and its citizens. The unit's history goes back to World War II when the United States Air Force activated a squad of pilots to fly unarmed photo reconnaissance missions over Anoka County. Today, the Airmen of the Minnesota ANG are responsible for providinglift, transportation, and logistical support to military operations in Minnesota and abroad. In commemoration of America's involvement in World War II, the Minnesota ANG donated aircraft and equipment to the Allies. The donation included three Curtiss P-40 Kittyhawk fighter planes, two Boeing B-24 Liberators, four Lockheed L-7s Lodestars, three Bellanca 330C Super Constellations, and five De Havilland DH-4 Wildcat dive bombers. Since then, the MN ANG has donated additional aircraft and equipment including: an F-15 Eagle; an E-3 Sentry airborne early warning system; eight HH-60H Black Hawk helicopters; six Cessna 182 Skymasters; a Hughes Helio PT6A Combat Pilot Trainer; two KC-135 Stratotankers; a Northrop Grumman Hualut helicopter squadron (N5013) as well as ground infrastructure such as airports and training ranges. Today's Airmen of the Minnesota ANG are dedicated to providing essential air support for all Minnesotans - whether they're working at home or serving overseas. They flying their combat missions with unwavering professionalism while upholding our state's values of service and selflessness. The Anoka County Air National Guard detachment deployed a gift to the city of Minneapolis in honor of Mayor Betsy Hodges and the city's 2017 Women's History Month celebration. The guardsmen brought a cake to Mayor Hodges' office on Dec. 3, 2017 as part of their annual gift history tour.

Anoka is a city in Minnesota, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Anoka County and the largest municipality in the state by area. The city has a total area of 26 square miles (71 km²). The city was founded in 1858 as a town on an outlying farmstead within present-day Minneapolis. Minneapolis incorporated as a city in 1873, and Anoka became its first county seat in 1903. After losing its county seat status to Minneapolis in 1912, Anoka regained it when that city was annexed into Minneapolis. In 1916, Anoka established itself as one of the leading agricultural centers of North America by becoming home to: 1) Minnehaha Electric Cooperative; 2) National Cash Register Company; 3) International Harvester Co.; 4) Standardbred Horse Breeders Association; 5) Crosby Grain Elevator & Storage CompanyInc.; 6) American Tobacco Growers Syndicate; 7) John A. Dempster Grain TerminalCompany Incorporated; 8) Jardine Cotton Stable & Feed Mill Co.; 9) Hagstrom Paper Manufacturing Company Incorporated; 10) Carlson Lumberyard and Dockyards Limited Partnership (later known as White Sands Lumber Yards). In 1966, Anoka became home to Mayo Clinic and other healthcare facility before being abandoned for decades until it reopened under new management in 2009. Today, much of what once made up Anoka are gone but portions like Hennepin County Library or Mayo Clinic have kept their former neighborhoods active with events such as art exhibits or music concerts shared between residents from different parts of town during specific times each year like July Fourth weekend or January 3rd for Thanksgiving Day parade
