From 1972-1984, there were only two small batch coffeeshops operating in Alexandria- both of which closed down within a few years of each other. In 1985, finally one smallbatch coffee shop reopened as Koffee Klatch which served all of their customers from their original spot until they closed down again soon after opening. From 1986-1991 there were only three small batch coffeeshops operating in Alexandria- all which closed down within a few years of each other due to various reasons such as financial difficulties or lack of interest by the local population. The last small batch Coffee Shop operating within Alexandria was Koffee Klatch which reopened for business shortly after closing its previous incarnation several years earlier than any other Small Batch Coffeeshop operation throughout the city at that time (1986). It is interesting to note that while most Small Batch Coffeeshops shuttered within a few years after opening (due either to financial problems or low demand), Koffee Klatch managed to stay open for an extended period of time despite this competitive environment (ten years).
