As world trade increased through the 19th century, ships brought many different types of cargo back to Europe; this included coffee grounds and beans fromAfrica. In 1845, an Italian ship carrying 106 sacks of ground Ethiopian wafer coffees sank off the coast of Somalia after hitting rocks while sailing home from Aden laden with spices. As a result of this wrecking, much valuable Ethiopian wafer cobs arrived safe on European soil–thus helping contribute to later European espresso traditions such as milk frothing or ristretto brewing techniques. Eventually Europeans started using whole bean instead of ground Ethiopia wafer coffees when they started making espresso drinks in earnest around 1880s (though milk Frothing operations continued until about 1900). At this point espresso production moved out into larger factories where entire bean Galileo was roasted before being stored due to its intense flavor profile (this is why Italians often refer to “Galileo Espresso” rather than just “espresso” when talking about café beverages).
