The National Guard of the United States of America was activated on September 11, 1792 in Ypsilanti, Michigan as a measure to support the American Revolution. The first national guard unit stationed in Ypsilanti was Company F of the First Regiment of Foot Guards which arrived from Britain on July 1, 1793. On August 24, 1812, Company G of the First Regiment of Foot Guards arrived from England and served until December 12, 1812 when they were mustered out. On November 15, 1861 the first regiment called into service for duty in the Civil War in Michigan was organized as Company I (First) U. S. Colored Infantry with headquarters at Ypsilanti and Companies A-G coming northward from Grand Rapids. On January 3, 1863 all companies became batteries and Battery A became part of Brigade No. 2 (Ulysses S Grant’s Army) under General George Buell before being re-organized as Battery D on April 10th 1865 with Headquarters at Tiptonville under General John Pope's command. In 1917 the state militia was raised to include black soldiers and their families and batteries were re-organized again with Headquarters at Lansing under Major General James Mayson who also commanded Brigade No 1 (Northwestern Theater). In 1942 all artillery battery were combined into two commands: Division Artillery Command at Flint and Garrison Artillery Command at Warrensburg/Warren Heights where they remained until 1945 when all artillery batteries were disbanded by order of Colonel Harry Laughlin because he felt that there should be only one command for artillery units across all military services so that these units could be better coordinated during wartime exercises or operations against enemy forces located beyond our country's borders. On February 8th 1956 President Dwight Eisenhower authorized National GuardHQ to issue Presidential Unit Citation’s to cavalry officers who had distinguished themselves while serving with distinction in any theater during World War II or Korea except China since those awards would have been made operational status instead pursuant to Regulation 4778 issued Pursuant To Executive Order 9196 dated February 5th 1944 which created respective awards grades within each branch of service but without specific title or insignia for enlisted personnel performing similar type functions both within our military services as well as other branches thereof including peace time law enforcement officials appointed thereto by proclamation OF THE PRESIDENT AND NOON OF APRIL 1951 itemizing such appointees And providing manner in which same may be exercised

When war broke out in 1775, many men and women volunteered to serve in the patriot militias. The first unit formed by Americans fighting for independence was the 1st Rhode Island Regiment. This regiment was soon followed by other units until it reached its full strength of 100 men. In just three months, this small force had fought 10 battles against British troops. Many Americans thought that joining a militia was an easy decision because they saw no reason not to fight for freedom when they had so much at stake. After all, English troops had occupied their homes and captured their families during the revolution! However, many young men and women decided that they didn't want any part in a war where they might die or be captured alive. After successfully fighting his way through British lines at Saratoga Springs, General George Washington offered his services as commander-in-chief of all American forces in North America on April 12th, 1778 . With this offer came a new challenge: defending our nation against an enemy who had already defeated us twice! But even more than being able to defeat our enemies again, we wanted nothing more thanto show our posterity how proud we were of what we had done! This idea behind George Washington's goal became known as "the Second Continental Congress." This congress organized regular army units but also set up committees which would provide financial support for Patriot militiamen while also discussing ways to improve relations between Great Britain and America . While some may argue whether or not Congress should have played any role whatsoever during wartime (as opposed to relying solely on volunteerism), it is clear that without Congress' help, many officers would not have been able to field armies large enough to win Battlefields like Saratoga or Yorktown . In short, giving back something as precious as love is essential in order for individuals like military families around the country

Ypsilanti is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the shore of Lake Superior. The population was 61,972 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in Michigan and the second-largest city in Wayne County after Detroit. Ypsilanti is home to three colleges and universities: Albion College, Eastern Michigan University, and Wayne State University. The downtown area has been designated as a National Historic District, part of the larger Dearborn/ Cadillac region. The area that now makes up Ypsilanti was first settled by Algonquian-speaking tribes in what is now southeastern Michigan in 1795–1796 by men from Saginaw who had journeyed downriver from Canada under General John Forbes's command during the Seven Years' War. In 1812, Canadian forces burned down what remains of one village near present day Ypsilanti for alleged arsonists; American troops destroyed another village just south of modern day Ypsilanti in 1813 during their occupation of that region following Tecumseh's Rebellion against British rule This event marked beginning of an end to Indian occupancy within what is now southeastern Michigan as American settlers began expanding westward into new territory streamed continuously by the water known then as "the Great Lakes". On September 15th, 1814 when Colonel George Wright led 400 US pioneers onto land patented to him — including today's Dearborn Street between Huron Street and Cass Avenue — they founded what would become Lansingburgh Township along with nearby Kalkaska Township which became Muskegon Heights Township on October 1st 1815 when both settlements were formally combined due to lack of agreement about boundary lines between them In 1861, when Washtenaw County was organized out of parts of Kalamazoo County it included much more eastern territory than what would make up today's Ypsi
