From 1916-1978, the Coast Guard gift shop operated out of the old Masonic Lodge on Superior Street in Wyandotte. The store closed its doors for good on October 4, 1978.
Wyandotte is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, with a population of 73,255 as of 2019. Wyandotte was founded on December 12, 1837, by John Wyandotte and his wife Esther. The town became a municipality on December 14, 1907. The first white settlers in Wyandotte were three brothers: Abel, Obadiah and Solomon Northrop. They came overland from Canada in 1836 and set up a cabin on the east side of what is now downtown Wyandotte. The Northrop brothers are buried in the original sandstone cemetery near the river bank where they operated their cabin until 1840 when they sold it to Captain David Wilkinson for $1,000 cash. Captain Wilkinson had purchased it from Solomon Northrop’s brother-in-law who had been killed by Indians while hunting buffalo near present day Cheboygan Township northwest of Wyandotte. Captain Wilkinson named the new settlement after his mother (Wanda) born at nearby Fort Dearborn; she was one of five children born to General Joseph Dearborn and Nancy Coleman Dearborn (1814–1891). Wanda’s parents moved to Detroit in 1829 but returned to live at Fort Dearborn two years later when Wanda’s father became governor of Michigan Territory during the 1830s Indian Removal Act which led to more than 60,000 Native Americans being forcibly removed from their land throughout Michigan between 1830 and 1865 including nearly all of what is now Wyandotte County excepting only small parcels within modern Cheboygan Township lying within Alger Township southeast of Nowata Lake Superior National Recreation AreaVacation Bungalows open year round Please write for brochures or orders

Wyandotte, Michigan is a small city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the eastern bank of the Huron River just north of Detroit. The population was 5,362 at the 2010 census. Wyandotte has been a part of the Lansing-based Metropolitan Statistical Area since its creation in 2000. The town was founded by French Canadian fur traders in 1817 as part of the Ottawa and Mackinac region and named for Jean-Baptiste Wyandot, an Indian fighter and member of an Ottawa regiment who had helped to conquer Fort Malden in 1792. Wyandotte became a village in 1827 when it amalgamated with several other villages within what is now East Lansing Township to form what is now Lansing Township (census 2010). The name "Wyandotte" may have come from a nearby stream, Wandaquete or Wanaquette Creek. In 1850, when Scott County was created from parts of Washtenaw and Oakland counties, Wyandotte became one of its first county seats and continued to serve as such until it was abolished in 1907 when all but three counties were split into new districts. In 1951, Snyder County replaced Washtenaw County as the new county seat and Wyandotte ceased to exist as an incorporated municipality within that county; however, it still maintains some local representation today through township voting procedures. In 2000, following the passage of legislation creating Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA) within Michigan's eighteen contiguous counties (including Washtenaw), Lansing emerged as one candidate for MSA status; however, due to financial limitationsuratantions placed upon municipalities by MSA regulations ( primarily those regarding property values ), Wyandotta instead became an MSA city with full governing authority over its own affairs - something which it continues to enjoy today under City Council jurisdiction . It should be noted that while both cities are considered "municipalities" within their respective METAs, respectively - each retains full governing authority over all aspects unique to its own municipal government including zoning ordinances , street design ordinances , building codes etc.; nonetheless - each mayoralty/council decision affecting either city is ultimately made by City Councilmembers who represent individual wards/neighborhoods within their respective MSA boundaries
