When Wyandotte, Michigan was founded in 1837 by the brothers John and Michael Wyandotte, coffee beans were their primary source of income. The first coffee house opened in 1847 and was known as the Coffee House on Main Street. The business continued to operate until 1868. The first millinery in Wyandotte was established in 1840 by Mrs. Nancey and is still in operation today. In 1851, a sawmill and grist mill were built on the riverbank just east of present-day Third Avenue and Third Street. These mills did not turn out coffee but processed lumber for the townspeople. In 1865, an post office was established at Wyandotte with J.Watson as its first mail carrier. A flour mill followed in 1870 which also produced flour for town residents to eat or sell off at local markets. The last coffee house closed its doors in 1968 after more than 100 years of service to the community. Today, there are only a few remnant remnants of pioneer life left within earshot of downtown Wyandotte – most notably The Old Millinery on Fourth Avenue where customers can purchase unique items made from local history like buttons, lace keychains and other knickknacks from old fashioned stores that once thrived hereabouts.

Wyandotte, Michigan is a small city in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the county seat of Calumet County. The population was 7,564 at the 2010 census. Wyandotte was founded in 1837 by John Wyandotte as a post office and trading post on the east side of what is now Midland Park. It became an official settlement in 1840 when it was made a part of Detroit Township. The first store in town was built by John Aiken and named "Aiken's Grocery". In 1849, Wyandotte became an incorporated village with a courthouse and schoolhouse. In 1861, it became part of Grand Rapids Township. On March 24, 1871, Wyandotte incorporated as a city under the name "Wyandotte", becoming one of only two cities in Michigan to be so incorporation status did not expire until after death or resignation from office. In 1907, during World War I, Wyandotte served as headquarters for American forces stationed along Lake Superior; its troops were responsible for providing food and munitions to Allied forces fighting on the Eastern Front. The battle that ensued there known as Battle of Dyess may have been the bloodiest encounter between US forces and Russian military up to that time On September 26th 1956 - less than 1 year after my great-grandfather's death - my father saw his dream come true when he accepted appointment from Mayor George Kapp (D) to serve on City Council serving 4 years followed by 2 terms on City Manager’s position The focus this year has been meeting financial challenges brought about by several large budget deficits which were created due to our state government policy changes dating back many years ago which have resulted in nearly $200 million dollars being cut from our city budget . We are working hard day & night to identify ways we can make ends meet while ensuring quality services offered through our police department Overall , I am extremely proud of all that has happened over these past few years including giving new life & hope to an organization once struggling financially
