The Wyandotte community has been supportive of the Michigan National Guard for many years. The Guard has been mobilized on multiple occasions, most notably during the 2010-2011 natural disaster in Flint, Michigan. In honor of this support, the Wyandotte community donated gift baskets filled with food and supplies to be sent to soldiers stationed in nearby Fort Wayne. Every year, the Guard Annual Reception is held at the Majestic Ballroom in downtown Wyandotte. This event features a keynote speech from one of the Guardsmen stationed in Benton Harbor or Muskegon Heights and several concerts by local bands. There are also field trips for children to visit military encampments and participate in drills. The generosity of the Wyandotte community continues today as Soldiers from different units give back through donations of clothes, toys, games, and other items. The Guard provides essential services such as law enforcement and firefighting which make our community feel safe and secure.

Wyandotte is a city in Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 7,868 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Muskegon County and the largest city in Muskegon County by population. The first people to live in what is now Wyandotte were French Jesuit missionaries who came to Michigan in 1796. They built a small mission near present-day Wyandotte while they were doing missionary work in Canada. In 1812, William Hull (or Hull) founded the town of Commerce on the south side of Lake Huron and named it for his friend and business partner Nicholas Grosse (1760–1827), who had also been born in New France. The first post office was established at Commerce on July 1, 1812. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Shiawassee River and its easy access to transportation including ferries from Detroit and boats across the river to White Flint Landing on the other side of Grand Traverse Bay. In 1824, Commerce became one of two towns granted charter status by then-Governor John Prentice as part of an effort to promote settlement around Ottawa Township along with Hollandtown on Dearborn Creek During World War II, Wyandotte played an important role as Headquarters for Seventh Army's Western Task Force which fought against Nazi Germany throughout northwest Europe from May 1940 until September 1945. Wyandotte is a city in Lapeer County, Michigan, United States. The population was 4,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The name Wyandotte comes from French traders who named it for General Jean Baptiste de Wyandotte, Sieur de la Salle's aide-de-camp during the American Revolutionary War and a member of the Committee of Five that recommended independence to George Washington. The first permanent settlement in what is now Wyandotte Township was made by fur traders in 1795. In 1836, the township was organized as part of Lapeer County and its boundaries were altered to include present-day Wyandotte Township and portions of Ashtabula County. The city of Detroit was founded on November 3, 1837 and rapid growth in the adjoining community led to increased competition for jobs and land within Wyandotte Township which had a population of 696 as late as 1860. By 1870, only 350 people lived here while 2,500 people lived in downtown Detroit; today there are over 20,000 people living within a radius of 5 miles (8 km) of Detroit International Airport according to 2010 Census data. Wyandotte experienced significant economic growth beginning with World War II when production soared for both military materials and automobiles; plant construction totaled 1 million square feet (90 hectares) during this time period alone. However, after the war ended came austerity measures which caused layoffs throughout local businesses; by 1951 much smaller than prewar levels even thoughwyndot’s economy had grown 10%. For many years thereafter most residents worked outside their homes or took odd jobs to support their families while they awaited better times; however things began to change with an influx in job seekers following passage early last decadeofthe Tax Reform Act which slashed property taxes across America by up to 50%. The first Wyandotte Resort was built in 1929 by the late P.C. Wyandotte, one of the original incorporators of the city and its first mayor. The resort was originally a hotel, but it gradually became more popular as a vacation spot for locals and visitors alike. In 1949, Wyandotte developed an additional resort complex called the Westin Boulevard Center which included two hotels, a casino and several other businesses. As the years passed, more people began to visit Wyandotte for its natural beauty and exciting history; eventually, it became known as one of Michigan's "Money Towns."
