National Guard gifts have been a part of the Wixom community for many years. Gifts given to the National Guard have helped provide service and support to our community. The National Guard was first organized in 1903 as a branch of the Michigan Militia. The National Guard has served our community well since then. In 1987, the Michigan Legislature authorized the organization of an individual unit within the Michigan Military Militia called The 1st Battalion, 7th Regiment, National Guard. In 1995, The 1st Battalion, 7th Regiment became one of thirteen units in the Michigan Military Militia named after General George Armstrong Custer. This event marked a significant change for our community as it honored those who had served with distinction in our military during World War II and Korea. Today, there are over 350 members of The 1st Battalion, 7th Regiment who support local communities across Wixom and its surrounding area. Many individuals choose to serve with The 1st Battalion because they appreciate their connection to their home county or city and feel that serving with this battalion provides them with personal growth opportunities outside of their regular job responsibilities. The Michigan National Guard was first organized on November 15, 1861. It was the first military unit in the state of Michigan. The Guard served as a militia until 1864, when it became an operational service of the Army. The Guard received its current name on July 1, 1945.
Wixom is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, and the seat of Wixom Township. With a population of 67,634 as of the 2010 census, it is the largest city in tri-county Wixom/Lansing County and one of the fastest-growing cities in Michigan. The city was founded on May 10, 1892 by brothers George and John Wickham Wyman. It became a charter city on December 1, 1957. In 2009, Wixom was ranked as one of America’s most livable cities by Forbes magazine. The first settlers to what is now Wixom were farmers who came from eastern England in 1853 with their families. They started a small farm near present day Lansing while they waited for transportation connections to be made to Western Michigan which never happened because railroads didn’t start coming until after Detroit had become an important center for commerce and industry. In 1868, George Wickham Wyman purchased 640 acres (2 km2) northeast of present day Lansing on Canisteo Creek where he built his house called “The Wickham House” (later known as The Wyman House). He later purchased 8 more acres (3 km2) east of his original land grant and named it “Wixom” after Appin State Park located about 12 miles west of Lansing at that time. It wasn’t until 1901 when school began in Wixom that young people could attend public schools starting out with only 4th grade students but then it grew rapidly! By 1909 there were 20 high school students attending each grade level! An additional 15 elementary classrooms were added over time making up today’s pre-kindergarten through 5th grade program! The townspeople quickly realized that they needed more than just a school district so they formed the Wolverines football team which played its first game against Ottawa Valley High School on October 11th 1889! On July 3rd 1920 the Town Council decided to name their new downtown business district “Downtown WixOM” since downtown Lansing at that time was primarily residential areas with few commercial properties or businesses other than two stores – Jardine & Gibbs Provisions Store (now part of Big MART) and A&P Supermarket – both located on Woodward Avenue across from current day First United Methodist Church building site where Dillard Department Store used to be located before being demolished in 1967 along with all other structures associated with that location including Kress Drugstore which operated from 1902–1914 adjacent to First United Methodist Church until its closure; Old Ford Auto Parts store across Woodward Avenue from Kress Drugstore operated from 1916-1967; Priorities Grocery store opened at 419 Saginaw St., NW corner priority grocery vacated circa 1970; Masonic Lodge #1htarick Lodge #5 opened at 915 N Main St., SW corner Masonic lodge vacated circa 1970; Ziegler's department store opened at 401 E Street SW Corner Ziegler's vacated circa 1960 leaving Downtown WixOM as the sole business district within ]]town limits]; this designation lasted until 1945 when [the old Piquette Mill Dam] flooded which destroyed much property within ]]town limits], necessitating creation of another business district - Post Office District - inside ]]town limits]. Today Downtown WixOM continues to serve as home base for many local businesses while also providing significant retail space within walking distance for residents throughout southeast Lansing containing major anchor stores such as Sears Holdings Roebuck & Co., Macy's Inc., Jardine & Gibbs Provisions Store[now Big MART], Allstate Insurance Company physical address: 501 E Washington Ave NW], Dollar General Corporation physical address: 601 N Main St NW], Dick's Sporting Goods Headquarters physical address: 9500 Woodward Ave SE[/brief ].
The national guard, or military reserve, is a term used in the United States to describe the component of the armed forces that is not organized into an individual service branch and instead provides support for other branches of government. The Guard may also provide security for infrastructure or other public safety installations. National Guard members are subject to same laws and regulations as regular army members, but they are not typically drafted into service. Wixom was a small town in the lower Peninsula of Michigan, United States. The town is located in Wixom Township, Washtenaw County and lies on the north bank of the River Saginaw between Saginaw Heights and Midland. It began as a trading post on the east side of the river, where white settlers met Native Americans for trade goods. In 1834, when Wixom became a village, it had a population of just over 100 people. The village was moved to its current location by an act of Congress in 1881. The town changed hands many times over its history and experienced various boom-and-bust phases until it finally stabilized around 1900. From that time through to the present day, Wixom has been home to a number of businesses including two banks, four manufacturing plants (including one that produced carriages), three educational institutions (one high school and two colleges), five healthcare providers (two hospitals and three clinics), as well as several dozen residences. Today, Wixom remains an active community with vibrant cultural programs and events throughout the year.

After the war, Wixom experienced rapid growth and development as a bedroom community for Midwestern towns. In recent years, however,Wixom has been struggling with economic decline and declining population levels.
