Walker, Michigan is a town in Oakland County, Michigan, United States. The population was 2,715 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. Walker is known as "The Friendly Village". Walker was founded by John and Jennie Walker in 1836. The first school in town was built on the current site of the Community House in 1837 and served grades 1-8. In 1840, a post office was established at Walker and it remained open until 1903. The first store opened in 1851 and became the original downtown store. In 1865, James Hickey purchased land east of present day Main Street for what would become Walker Township. In 1872, an Act of Congress created what is now Wayne County and named it after General George Washington Butler (1767-1848). Butler had been wounded at Yorktown during the American Revolution and then spent several years recuperating in Canada before returning to America to serve as governor of that state from 1826 to 1830. He returned to America and arrived in Detroit on July 4, 1832 , where he met Jennie Walker who had just moved from Ohio with her family to start a new life as a teacher/nurse/family woman/farmer's wife – all within one year! General Butler donated land for a school district about two miles east of his home on Clairvieve Avenue (now Woodward Avenue) which he named after his friend Jennie’s daughter Clara Ann (1811-1893). This public structure served grades 9-12 through 1932 when it burned down due to termites eating through the roof! After much fundraising by community members including $2 million raised by local businesses over 5 years starting in 1927 via fund raisers such as jockeys wearing red hats while driving around village streets), construction began on what would become cornerstone of Walker High School – its Administration Building which opened September 3rd 1933 with then Superintendent Drury Prentice officiating! vestige still visible today outside building facing west across Woodward Avenue

Walker was a small town in the county of Midland, Michigan, United States. The population was 592 at the 2010 census. Walker is now an unincorporated community in Calhoun County, Michigan. Walker was named after George Walker, a settler who moved to the area in 1836. The first post office at Walker was established on October 16, 1847. It served as the only post office in the town for two years before it closed due to low mail volume. In 1850, Walker had a school and one store. In 1861, when Union troops burned down the town's courthouse and other buildings, Walker's only remaining building became a military hospital during the American Civil War. The town did not return until 1865 when it re-opened with new government buildings. The community experienced another revival from the late 1990s through 2000s due to its location within easy reach of Lansing and other large cities by highway. However, that popularity has waned over time as grocery stores have opened up closer to larger towns and villages across northeast Michigan. Walker is located at (42.*10**), about northwest of Lansing on U.S.-Canada Border Road 3 along what is now I-94 Business Route 2 east of Interstate 94 exit 21A (the former terminus of US-Canadian Highway 141). According to the 2010 census,[1] Walker has an total population of 592 residents[2]. At that date,[3], there were no businesses or residences located within walking distance of any real estate agent or property owner; all residents lived either inside their homes or within a few miles of local schools and churches which helped keep people close together during those early days before emailing information about properties reached much wider audiences than today’s internet-based marketing capabilities could ever hope to achieve! As late as 2005[4], many homes still remained unoccupied because there are no longer any resident tax rates! Residents must pay sales taxes ($25/$75) plus township income tax ($5/$15), mowing/fencing/road maintenance fees($5-$10 per month), and water & sewer bill(s) (which run jointly with township government).[5] This condition remains unchanged today even though most young families have moved away – some 10 years later!
Walker was a town in Wayne County, Michigan. It is now part of Romulus Township. Walker was founded on the east side of the Kawkawaga River by German immigrants in 1851. In 1857, it became the county seat of Wayne County. The post office at Walker until 1861 served as the only general store in the community. The first school opened in 1860 and was held jointly by both Walker and neighboring Dearborn Heights. The first doctor in Walker was Dr. John Harker, who came to help open up the community after Indian Removal began in 1840.
