In the early 1800s, the United States Army was deployed to various places all over the world. One of these deployments was in Troy, Michigan. This city served as a garrison for troops stationed in Illinois and Ohio. The military presence in Troy led to the development of some interesting gift history associated with this city. The first gift that came to Troy was a flagpole. This structure was donated by Captain Nathaniel Pyle of Company G, 2nd Regiment, U.S. Infantry (later 1st Battalion, 9th Marines). The flagpole was erected on Broad Street near State Road 7 in 1814 during the War of 1812. Another donation from Captain Pyle came in 1817 when he donated two cannonballs and four barrels of powder to be used by Fort Dearborn as part of its artillery armament. These cannons were later renamed USS Constitution (1814-1847) and USS Constitution II (1850-1851), respectively. After Independence Day in 1815, General James Kossuth surrendered at Chicago without fighting his way out and took refuge there with his army inside Fort Dearborn. On November 11th, 1816, General Kossuth set up camp outside of Detroit after withdrawing from Michilimackinac Island following an attack by American forces on that island days earlier. A group of citizens from Troy volunteered to go into town and purchase provisions for the troops besieging Detroit while they waited for reinforcements from Canada arriving via sailboat piloted by Lieutenant John Willsbury ( afterwards Ambassador Plenipotentiary at Paris ). In return for their services, these citizens received items such as clothes, saddles, etc., which helped contribute to general morale during this time period . After Kossuth's surrender,, Major George Wright agreed to lead an expedition against him if possible since he had personal knowledge about his whereabouts . Unfortunately for Wright , he actually managed to locate Kossuth first before any American forces could arrive ..... Colonel Augustus Stowell also served as Acting Commander-in-Chief at Detroit during this time period

Troy, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Antrim County. As of 2010, the city had a population of 109,839. The population was estimated to be 122,651 as of 2015. The name Troy comes from the name of two historical towns in that area: Troy Township and Troy Center. The first permanent settler in what is now Troy Township was George Hennepin on December 12, 1813. He named his town after General Philip Henry Preble who fought in the War of 1812. On November 3, 1824, John Czarnecki purchased 640 acres (2 km²) east of present-day downtown Troy from Abram Wanamaker for $1,000 dollars In 1827 he sold an additional 636 acres (2 km²) to Nicholas Biddle for $1,200 dollars which made him owner-operator and first postmaster at what is today known as downtown Troy In 1830 John Wanamaker donated land to build a schoolhouse on Main Street between State Street and US 21/22 north side – this became what is nowState Capitol Square The first public school opened in October 1830 with students taught by Mr. Pyle from Battle Creek The first teacher at Griggs School was Mrs Sears from Jackson County In September 1831 Mr. Poole moved into Griggs School with 8 pupils grades pre-K through 8th grade because there was no other building available for use near by GOPHERSVILLE AVE NW corner First Congregational Church lot also became available on 9/19/1831 when mother church refused to give property away free

Troy, Michigan is a small city in the U.S. state of Michigan that is best known for its football team, the Troy Trojans. The city was founded in 1837 by brothers Elijah and John Dixon. In 1907, it became a township and in 1959 it became a city. The population of Troy was 17,849 at the 2010 census. In 1865, French Canadian fur trader Étienne-Jacques Cartier named the area after his friend and mentor Augustus Cushing who had also been born in Troy, New York. In 1868, Indian traders from Michilimackinac Territory traded goods with settlers in what is now downtown Troy and on the banks of the Ottawa River. By 1870, there were about 30 settlers living in what is now downtown Troy including 10 children of John Dixon who had come overland from Canada that year on horseback to start a new life in America. The first school opened in downtown Troy on May 4th, 1871 as an Independent School District #7 schools district under control of territorial Governor James Worthy Jennings with instruction offered at home to students between 6th and 12th grades along with one teacher for boys only until Normal School began operation on October 1st which operated out of Grosse Pointe Woods Academy across from present day Union Station Square where classes started June 3rd 1880 The first football game played as part of George Brown’s “Pioneer Football Carnival” took place September 5th 1872 against Albion College (now Albion University) which ended 0-0 due to unpredicted rainstorms that washed away all but two minutes worth of play time; though Albion claims credit for kicking off football as America’s first gridiron sport according to some sources As early as 1873 local citizens had organized themselves into committees to collect funds needed for necessary repairs needed during winter such as roofs replaced/repaired leaky gutters improved sidewalks built or better roads graded . On December 2nd state representative Amasa Walker introduced House Bill 5191 – Repairs needed around town while attending ball game between Blackshear & Armstrong colleges then adjourned without further ado because he could not find any members willing to sponsor bill when called upon later that night looking back on this experience today many would say this fledgling town began its Future more than anyone realized back then angling towards becoming something more than just a post office stop on Hwy 7
