It is with great sadness that we report the passing of one of military history's most beloved individuals, Mrs. Betty J. Hargrave. Betty was a longtime resident of Traverse City and an active member of the local military community. Her love for her country and her passion for serving others will be sorely missed. Betty's donations to Second World War veterans charities are truly unique in nature, as she often made special requests on behalf of individual soldiers during visits to their barracks or post-war homes. In addition to her love for the military, Betty was also deeply interested in arts and culture, spending time at local theaters and galleries as well as attending numerous museum events throughout her life. This land lay within what is now Wayne County but was included in Washtenaw County until 1840 when it became part of Macomb County During World War II, Traverse City became one of over 50 cities across North America housing attack submarines built by Atomic Energy Commission plant at Mile Marker 12 submarine base adjacent to town center which functioned as a naval air station providing training for numerous fighter and bomber pilots during World War II . Many famous people have lived or worked here such as Herb Caen (writer) and Donald Trump (Presidential candidate). After the war ended many companies left or were bought out leaving downtown empty except for a few small businesses which continue today .
