Navy deployments have a long and varied history in the Sturgis area. The first naval deployment to the area was in 1814 when Commodore George Vancouver sailed his ship HMS Beagle down Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to explore the region. His expedition discovered Native American villages, and he returned with specimens of plants and animals that were later introduced back home as gifts to members of Parliament. The USS Constitution arrived in Sturgis on July 4, 1846, for what would be her final deployment as part of the U.S. Navy. She served until she was decommissioned on September 29, 1946. During her time here she hosted a number of events including an official review by President Polk followed by a concert by Pee Wee Crayton at the Opera House. In 1944, during World War II, USS Lexington left Sturgis for several months deployment off Normandy leading up to Operation Overlord which ended with her sinking on June 6th off Omaha Beach. This event is considered one of the most dramatic naval engagements in history and has been cited as one of the reasons why Naval Forces Europe (NFE) was formed during this time period to handle Allied maritime operations in European waters.. Since then there have been dozens of deployments both nationally and internationally throughout different wars and conflicts; some that stand out more than others are Desert Storm (1991),Operation Neptune’s Spear (2006), Kosovo (1999), Afghanistan (2001), Iraq (2003), Libyan Dawn(2011), Syria Civil War(2015) and many more! It is truly traversing through history that we take notice of those who have served our country over these years; it really makes you appreciate what they have done for us!

When the United States and Canada united in 1867, they did so with a goal of creating a North American Union that would include all of the Great Lakes region. The movement for this unification was led by General George Armstrong Custer, who had been martyred during the Mexican-American War. To commemorate Custer's memory, Sturgis, Michigan was renamed Custer National Monument on July 6th, 1893. The history of Sturgis is intertwined with that of the Native Americans who lived there before European settlers arrived. The first Europeans to settle in what is now Sturgis were fur traders and missionaries from settlements such as Quebec City. Beginning in the mid-18th century, Russian fur traders traveled down the Mackinac River and eastward into present-day Michigan Territory. When Russia lost control over eastern Siberia in 1783, these traders became interested in exploring this new land. In 1827, German settlers began arriving in what is now Michigan Territory; they were looking for land to farm and build their homes on. By 1849, about 60% of Michigan's population consisted of Germans (about twice the percentage among native peoples). In 1851, US Senator Augustus Porter proposed that an area near modern day Sturgis be designated as a national monument to honor General Custer's legacy and promote settlement by Anglo-Americans throughout Central America and Mexico. Senators John Pemberton and Samuel J everyone then decided to name part of central Michigan's landscape after General Custer instead (Sturges being one possible choice). In 1862, when Fort Cassius surrendered at Yorktown Peninsula in Virginia, many soldiers died from disease brought over by Indian warriors across the border into Canada; these troops were also buried at Yorktown Peninsula National Cemetery. After several years of research it was determined that no single cemetery could accommodate all military veterans from both sides of the war (the Army claimed responsibility for burying more than 2200 soldiers at Yorktown Peninsula). A committee was formed to find a site where veterans could be buried collectively without fear of contamination or loss of revenue from their tombstones/memorials. On October 15th 1861 Congress passed an act authorizing President Abraham Lincoln to erect a national monument “to stand forever against dishonor” within five miles radius around Washington Daughters Cemetery on Dearborn Heights Road near downtown Detroit . This Act provided $5 million towards building this memorial park which includedrectional cells for female offenders as well as two pavilions—one housing 500 visitors each summer while another contained 12 artillery pieces donated by Major Jubilee Dent , director general Western military department . Assembling materials for construction began on September 1st 1863 under directionof Colonel George Stephenson ; gates opened on November 10th 1865 after completionof 3 months excavation

Navy deployed gift history goes back to World War II. At that time, the United States Navy had a large and versatile gift depot. The depot was located at NAS Norfolk, Virginia and it became known as the “Gift Shop of the Sea” because of all the gifts that were sent in during those years. The Naval Gift Depot was started by Rear Admiral Harry W. Byrd in 1942 and it soon became one of the most important gift depots in the navy. It functioned as a storage facility for military supplies and equipment, as well as a place where friends and family could give gifts to their navy members. One of the first things that Rear Admiral Byrd did when he took over charge of the Naval Gift Depot was to start offering special discounts on military gear and supplies. This gave people an idea about what types of gifts they could get for their loved ones serving in our country's armed forces. Over time, different branches of our service have their own gift Depots, but Rear Admiral Byrd's Naval Gift Depot remains one of the most popular places to visit today. If you're looking for something special for someone who has served your country in some way, please don't hesitate to go check out this wonderful part of naval history!

The Navy has deployed gift history dating back to the Revolutionary War. In 1775, the Continental Navy's first ship, HMS Constitution, transported a shipment of munitions from Philadelphia to New York City. The next year, USS George Washington sailed for Halifax with a cargo of supplies in support of the American Revolution. Gifts were also given during the Civil War and World War II.

In 1851, the first post office in Sturgis was established. By 1871, the town had a population of 100 people and an Agricultural Fair was held every year. In 1916, Sturgis became a city and in 1959 it merged with Grand Rapids to form the Detroit Metropolitan Area. The paper mill closed in 1966 and much of the fabric industry moved out of town as well. Today, only a few small businesses remain in downtown Sturgis that are used for antique sales or handmade clothing.

The town of Sturgis, Michigan was founded in 1872 by Norwegian immigrants as a farmstead on the banks of the St. Clair River. The village grew to become an important transportation and commercial center in the area after it became clear that this location was ideal for carrying goods to and from nearby Detroit. In 1907, the town became a city and has since grown into one of the most populous communities in Michigan.
