Southgate, Michigan is a small town in the Kalamazoo-Wixom area of Michigan. It was founded in 1824 by Danish immigrants and has been continuously occupied since then. The town is named after Southgate Without, an old military fort that was destroyed by the British in 1812. The first people to live in Southgate were the Menominee Indians. They moved into the area in the early 1800s and started farming. In 1825, they built a trading post on what is now Main Street. The post served as a communication center for the surrounding community and was also used for hunting and fishing expeditions. In 1828, John Sappington purchased land around what is now Southgate from the Menominee Indians. He erected a mill on current Main Street and began manufacturing paper products such as hats and shrouds. Sappington's descendants continue to operate the business today. The first settlers who came to Southgate were primarily Dutch Americans. They arrived between 1830 and 1840 and started farmsteads near what is now corner of State Road 2 (later State Road 5) and Main Street. Some of these settlers also built mills along present-day State Road 2 (later State Road 5). As time passed, more Irish families came to Southgate to work on various farms or start their own businesses. By 1860, there were over 50 Irish families living in Southgate alone. During World War II, many American soldiers stationed at Camp Lewis caught word about demand for war goods among local farmers so they set up manufacturing plants throughout nearby towns like Battle Creek and Wixom while they fought overseas (and some soldiers even stayed behind to run these plants!). In 1945, when Camp Lewis closed down, all of its soldiers were discharged back home with their machines! After World War II ended, many Germans settled in SouthGate as well – they had come over as refugees during World War II! After awhile though most of them left because life here wasn’t exactly easy compared to their homes back east (or because they just didn’t feel welcome). Today there are still quite a few German residents living in town but overall things have become considerably more diversified with an increasing number of Americans coming here each year to visit friends or family members who are already living here permanently or working here illegally or both!

Southgate is a small, Midwestern town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 7,743 at the 2010 census. Southgate is home to Southgate High School and Holy Rosary Catholic Church. It is also home to the Mackinac Center forthe Arts and the Park District of Southgate Township. The name "Southgate" comes from two local streams: Southgates Creek and Gates Mill Stream. The creek originates in a valley near Mount Pleasant, runs through the town, empties into the Straits of Mackinac, then flows generallyNW to join Lake Huron just north of Sault Ste Marie. Gates Mill Stream originates about 3 miles (4 km) east of downtown south of State Road 623 and flows NW into Georgian Bay before turning southwesterly along US-12W towards Sudbury. In 1836, surveyor John Wilkinson named one side of what is now Southgate township after General James Wilkinson who had led American forces against Native Americans during the War of 1812 (the Battle ofTraverse City). In 1855, Henry Ford donated land to build his village on what is now North Main Street in Greenfield Township which included part of present day Southgate Township as well as much undeveloped land that served as Ford's farmstead until it was annexed by Greenfield in 1916. A post office called "SouthGate" was established at what is now Gates Mill Road in 1858, and remained in operation until 1957. The first settler in this area was John Nevin who arrived around 1800 CE with his family from England via Nova Scotia. Nevin became an interpreter for Ulysses S Grant during his military campaigns against Native Americans on the Michigamma Peninsula while serving under General Anthony Wayne between 1794-1800 CE; he later became a prosperous farmer hereabouts. Ida Cramer came to this area around 1830 with her husband Jacob Cramer Jr., settling near present day Gate Mills Road northeast of downtown on private land grants given by George Washington Carver Jr.; Ida's father had been born at Fort Snelling near modern-day Rochester Hillsmi

Southgate is a small town in the village of Southgate, Michigan. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It was first settled in 1837. The community was named for General Charles Gault Southgate, who led American forces during the Mexican-American War and later served as United States Ambassador to Spain. The first store in Southgate opened in 1868. It was the only store in town until 1915 when a new store was built on Main Street. In that year, a post office was established and remained active until 1967 when it closed due to competition from larger towns nearby. By 1924, there were only four homes left in town and most of its business had been moved to other towns within easy driving distance or across the river by boat. In 1938, Southgate High School became the first high school in township history and remains an important part of local education today. Prior to this time students attending school either went to schools located elsewhere in township or crossed the river for transportation to neighboring townships. In 1969, Southgate Township merged with neighbouring Livingston County into one large municipality known as Danbury Township which increased their shopping opportunities outside of town limits while also reducing travel time for residents living inside the boundaries of both municipalities During World War II, many veterans from Southgate enlisted and served during combat deployments overseas including onboard submarines USS Ponce (SS-521) and USS Triton (SS-604). Many descendants of those soldiers still reside near Southgate today via social media platforms such as Facebook or Twitter (@southgatetitans). As a result of its military history, present day SouthGate has become home base for several patriotic organizations including We Are The WorldWWII Veterans Organization and America's Got Talent WWII Champions perform at local functions throughout the year
