In 1951, Rear Admiral Jens Eriksen became Commandant General and donated two destroyers, USS Detroit (DD-311) and USS Indianapolis (CV-8), to be used as Navy Reserve training ships. During the Korean War, General John Halleck donated another destroyer, USS Porter (DD-723) to serve in that conflict. Finally, a warship museum was established at Roseville when USS Missouri (BB-63) was donated by Mayor James Norris on October 21st, 1969. This museum is open every day from 9am until 5pm except holidays!

The Navy was the first military service to come to Roseville in 1855. The area had been used as a fur trading post by the Potawatomi tribe and it was not until after the American Civil War that any permanent soldier presence occurred. In 1865, when the U.S. bought land on the shore of Lake Huron for $8,500, naval personnel began arriving to staff the new navy base there. Naval ships were moored at what is now known as Belle Isle before being moved inland to their present-day site in 1870. The town of Roseville was founded on November 16th, 1875 by Captains George Fenton and Alfred Whipple with barracks and stores located on Water Street near today's Veterans Memorial Park.
Roseville is a small city in Shiawassee County, Michigan, United States. The population was 7,993 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Shiawassee County. The community was founded in 1836 by John Dickson and his wife Anna Ladd as a post office named after Anna's brother James Dickson. The first store in Roseville opened in 1837 and consisted of five oxen and one wagon. In 1851, the first sawmill was built and continued to be used until it burned down in 1935. The second store, located on Main Street between Third Street and Fourth Street, opened in 1850 when Henry Smeaton purchased the land from John Dickson for $100 cash. In 1868, Mennonite preacher Wilhelm Fuhrman moved to Roseville from Battle Creek with his family. He began preaching here on Saturday mornings before continuing to do so at other churches throughout Shiawassee County until his death in 1903. After Wilhelm's death, many people began calling Roseville "Fuhrman's Ridge". In 1902–1903, construction started on what would become Shiawassee Community College (now Eastern Michigan University). cornerstone laid by President William McKinley on November 6th 1903; students first enrolled that fall.[4] The college became operational September 15th of that year with classes starting for the fall term.[5] Today EMU has over 12500 students from 150 countries,[6] making it one of the largest universities east of the Mississippi River![7]

Roseville is a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan and has a population of about 100 people as of 2010. The community was founded in 1871, when lumbermen prospected for coal near the banks of the Grand River. Roseville became a village in 1903, and was incorporated as a city in 1907. The city is named after General Motors affiliate Henry Ford, who donated land to form what is now the downtown area. The first businesses in Roseville were grocery stores and other local services. By 1920, there were six churches and 152 residents living in what is today the downtown core of Roseville. During World War II, many citizens worked on military bases or manufacturing plants across the state; however, Roseville remained primarily residential until the early 1960s when it began to experience population growth due to automotive production at nearby Essex Township (now part of Detroit). In response to this new development, Mayor John Witherspoon established Roseville's first municipal government on November 3rd of that year which consisted of five members: Mayor Witherspoon himself, Alderman John Dickey (later City Clerk), Treasurer Emery Auerbach (later Police Chief), Street Commissioner Harry Fenton and Building Commissioner Edward Gillett-Hansen. In 1967, during an effort to reverse decades-long decline in taxable values within its borders due to suburbanization within reach by adjacent cities such as Dearborn Heights and Livonia,[1][2] the then-mayor appointed a Board of Adjustment to study potential changes that would affect tax rates for both single family homes[3]—an issue on which residents had long lobbied—and multifamily dwellings within city limits.[4] Ultimately these proposed changes did not materialize but instead saw increased commercial property values surrounding downtown while tax rates remained more equitable than those for neighboring suburbs;[5][6] one result was that over time much older housing developments located outside of town lost their Tax Increment Financing status which had allowed them access to subsidies affordable only by newly built homes inside town limits.[7][8][9];[10][11] Following several years' worth of analysis including recommendations from both Boards,[12][13] on January 1st 1976 Roseville adopted an ordinance establishing Local government status with plenary power over all matters affecting individuals or groups residing within its boundaries without having prior approval from eitherBoard; effective February 2nd.[14][/vc_column][/vc_row][/section][/vc_column][/row],
