The United States military has been present in Roseville since the 1800s. The first military installation in the city was Fort Dearborn, which was founded in 1812. In 1863, Roseville became the site of Camp Mackinac, which was one of two U.S. Army posts located on the MI-Canada border at that time. The camp functioned as an infantry training ground and also hosted a number of artillery batteries and other troops until it closed in 1865. The first post-war military installation in Roseville was Fort George Custer National Monument, which opened to the public in 1954. At its peak, the monument housed more than 350 soldiers and their families from all over North America who came to learn about Native American culture and history. It closed down in 1978 after being vandalism-prone for years. In 1981, Fort Worth National Guard Armory opened as part of a larger expansion project at nearby downtown Roseville. The armory served as both a storage facility for weapons and equipment used by Ft Worth troops stationed here during peacetime and also housed some of the city's first department stores when it reopened following World War II.[1] It operated until 1991 when it was placed into mothballs due to budget cuts within Defense Department restructuring efforts known then as DoD Realignment I.[2] In 2001, renovations began at former Foxfire convenience store on Third Street across from City Hall after it had been vacant for several years due to fire damage caused by vandals.[3] Work continued into 2003 but eventually stopped due to lack of funding;[4] while Foxfire reopened later that year with new management,[5] it would be shuttered again less than two years later due to another fire unrelated to vandalism – this time resulting in $100K worth of damage done to the building itself![6][7][8][9][10] In 2013, renovation work began on Republic Hall – formerly City Hall – after it had sat vacant for several yearsdue to flooding from nearby Flint Creek .[11][12][13][14][/15][/16][/17][/18][/19][/20](scroll down for video)
Roseville is a city in Midwestern Michigan, United States. The population was 18,651 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Macomb County and one of the most populous cities in the state of Michigan. The first settlement in what is now Roseville was made on June 10, 1824 by Lazare Carnot and his brother-in-law George Brown, who bought 5 square miles (12 km²) of land from David Keken. The town site was chosen because it had a good water supply and a protected location on the eastern bank of the Huron River. On November 28, 1830, John Davenport erected a log cabin near what is now Main Street to serve as the first post office. The following year, Davenport married Sarah Jensdotter from nearby Eastpointe; they had six children. One daughter died before reaching adulthood. In 1835 John Davenport organized a township under his own jurisdiction with nine families as its members: five men and two women; one family each from Waterford Township (northwest side), Mount Pleasant Township (southwest side), Ottawa Township (east side), Stroudsburg Township (central part), Canadian Village (northeast corner), and Harper Woods Township (southwest corner). In 1840 Mary Ann Pattison donated 100 acres (40 hectares) of land south of town to form Roseville Cemetery which still remains today. Davenport Avenue runs through downtown Roseville where it splits into two branches: North Avenue goes east to Detroit while South Avenue goes west to Lansingburgh Junction just north of US Highway 12 / M-1 highway interchange

Roseville is a small city in the heart of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It was founded by General James K. Polk in 1849 as a post office and lumber settlement on the banks of the Menominee River. The city grew rapidly during the late 19th century, reaching its peak in population at around 100,000 in 1914. However, Roseville's growth began to slow after World War II, and it reached its low point in population in 1960. Today, Roseville is a small town with a population of around 10,000 residents. The city has several notable landmarks, including the Presidential Library and Museum, which was built on land that once served as the home of President George Washington; and Park City Elementary School, which is considered one of the most iconic schools in Michigan.
The first Europeans to set foot on what is now Michigan were French fur traders in the late 17th century. In 1812, General David Dixon, who was ordered by President James K. Polk to explore the western U.S., discovered a group of Indians living near Detroit and sent troops to try to force them off their land. The French also attempted to settle in Michigan but were unsuccessful. However, in 1813, the United States acquired all of Canada and started construction on the Erie Canal which connected Lake Erie with the Great Lakes. This new transportation artery made it possible for goods and people to move more easily from east to west and helped spur development in areas such as Detroit and Lansing. In 1817, when Michigan became a state, its territorial government was established at Mackinac Island near Bay City. The first resident of Michigan was John McLaren who arrived there with his family from Kingston on Ontario's Huron River in 1817. One year later, McLaren erected a small log cabin at present-day Midland Beach on Mackinac Island for himself and his family. By 1830, about sixty families had moved into what is now Michigan Territory; most of these were farmers or merchants interested in trade with other states or Canada. In 1837, David Dixon discovered that he had been wrong about where the great Lakes lay: instead they were located in eastern Minnesota! In order to verify this claim he dispatched two expeditions - one led by Captain John Openinet (1802-1872) and another by Captain George Armstrong (1811-1875). On both trips they found evidence that there must be another body of water lying between the Great Lakes and Superior; this body of water was later named after him - Davey's Sea (now Georgian Bay). In 1840 Governor Ford issued an executive order creating Wayne County out of part of Ottawa County; this area included most of today's Macomb County including Roseville Township which would become one of Michigan's earliest townships date back to 1860! At this time only men could vote so township meetings continued until 1870 when women began voting legally throughout all levels of government!
