Roseville is a city in Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 30,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Muskegon County. The city is located on the shores of Lake Huron and has a population density of . The first village in what would become Roseville was founded by French missionaries in 1814 as Sault Ste. Marie de la Rivière. They named it after their home town of Sault-aux-Montresors, Quebec, where they had been living for many years before coming to America. By 1827, there were six villages in what became Muskegon County; including Roseville. In 1881, John Nevin established Nevin's Ford near today's center of town with his sawmill and gristmill on the Rouge River. The firm operated until 1899 when it merged with another miller, Wickersham & Elder and continued as Wickersham & Elder Grain Mill which then merged with Armour Mills Corporation in 1915 to form Armour Manufacturing Company which still operates as an industrial company today. In 1925, the community became known as "Roseville" after Mayor John Haggerty Sr.'s wife who had given her name to that part of town immediately north of town on Mud Lake (now called North Muskegon River). In 1930s Roseville was one of only two cities in Michigan without any electricity or water systems due to prohibition forces during the Great Depression During World War II, Roseville served as an auxiliary airfield for nearby Grand Rapids Naval Air Station(GR NAS) from 1942-1945 inclusive. As part of Iwo Jima operations from 1945-1951 inclusive local residents formed a neighborhood association to raise funds for Cemetery Memorial Park Cemetery outside town limits while also working unsuccessfully to get support from city hall for cemetery expansion into their own municipally owned land east side of Main Street between Shiawassee Avenue and South Hagerman Road all while maintaining separate residential neighborhoods within their own boundaries With increasing suburbanization acrossMuskegon County over ensuing decades much declined infrastructure supporting urban centers such as Roseville began failing along with jobs at local mills which closed down leaving little economic counterbalance against decliningresidential values overall leading to pressure from government officials culminating in acquisition by neighboring ridings Cadillac and Holland Township beginning around 1960 with establishment designated as its new municipal seat

Roseville was founded in 1837 by Nicholas Deasy and family. The town became a Michigan county in 1847, and then a city in 1903. The population of Roseville peaked at over 100,000 in the 1920s, but has since declined to around 50,000. The primary reason for the decrease is the decline of industry in the area after World War II. However, Roseville still remains an important community with a rich cultural heritage. The first settlers of what would become Roseville were farmers who arrived from New York and Pennsylvania in 1837. They built their first cabin on the banks of the Rouge River. In 1838, they organized a group of men to help build a ferry across the river to get goods to merchants in Detroit. This initial effort was successful, and they soon began trading with other communities along the river. In 1840, Nicholas Deasy set up shop as a sawmill and grist mill near where he had originally built his cabin. He also started growing corn and wheat for local consumption. By 1850, he had erected two buildings on Main Street - one for his business and one for his home; he also had four barns and sixteen acres (6ha) of land irrigated with canals that brought water from downriver. By 1860,Nicholas Deasy had 4 children: Lucy (1840-1912), John (1841-1924), Anna (1843-1925),and Nicholas Jr.(1845-1920). One year later,, Anna married George Pemberton who also lived in Roseville at that time(George Pemberton moved away when his dad died). By 1870,, all five children were living together with their mother Lucy at 54 Main Street - which is now Fourth Avenue/State Road 590A.. Their father's death did not stop them from continuing their farming or trade businesses however; within three years after his death both Lucy's husband George Pemberton ()and her son Nicholas Jr.)were operating another sawmill called "Pembertons" located off State Road 2 south east of town on land owned by their father's widow.(note: For more information about this family see below) The wife operated this mill until her own death circa 1907 while her son continued running it until 1912 when it was purchased by J H Curtis who ran it into bankruptcy due to heavy competition from other mills.(Curtis history available online at http://www2a0dmihjyc9hvz8l4nxnx1a00/history_of_rosevillemichigan/) Thereafter it passed through several hands before being purchased by Wm Crayer who managed it until its sale to L D Griggs who still operates it today . According to Wm Crayer personal history books kept by grandson Bill Crayer during prohibition era ,the millstones that spinning ceased operations because there wasn't enough coal left behind so Mr Griggs put bricks inside while running engine making sure noone could steal any stones! Coalmining resumed operation following repeal but ultimately ended around 1930 .) Roseville is a city in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States. The population was 24,801 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lansing–East Lansing–Farmington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to encounter Roseville was John C. Frémont during his 1805 reconnaissance mission from Detroit to Mackinac Island. He named it "Rosierville" after his sister's home town in Italy. In 1828, Cadillac settlements were established east of what is now Roseville on sections of land claimed by both groups: the first by French traders and the second by Ulysses S. Grant and other American settlers who had wanderlusts following their victory in the Mexican-American War (1846-48). East of present-day Rosierville lay what became Washtenaw County; west of present-day Rosierville lay Livingston County. In 1828, Cadillac residents formed a small village called Connersville within what is now Rosierville Township while they awaited news that their claims would be resolved before taking up permanent residency there. On May 10, 1829, two weeks after General Wayne's invasion of Mexico, representatives from Michigan Territory arrived for an extended meeting at Fort Dearborn to discuss Indian removal policies and other matters related to Ford's Indian Expedition under general George Washington Finley (1800-1865). One item on the agenda was whether or not any more towns or villages should form near Ford's expeditionary camp as citizens awaited news on their claims’ status and potential borders with Livingston and Washtenaw Counties respectively. At this meeting, one inhabitant of Connersville notified fellow villagers about proceedings taking place nearby at Fort Dearborn where delegates from Michigan Territory were discussing Removal issues among local tribes including the Ottawa/Ojibwe people living east of Lake Huron along contemporary Mazon Creek south of Woodstock Road northeast to modern Willow Run Road whereriver flows into Big Five Lakes north thereof). After Minerals Rights Act passed in 1862 through legislation introduced by Senator David Wilmot (D-MI), all private land east of US 231 became public domain; this included portions claimed by both parties including those lying withinpresent day Rosierville Township as well as much extending into current day Livingston County adjacent Ionia Township also containing contiguous parcels with Dickman Park still standing today just outside its boundaries northwest corner dating back to pre- flushable water era when property line shifted due to wetlands filling up) leaving only lands lying within present day Rosierville Township being privately owned until 1954 when it became state open land under authority granted under section 8(a)(2)of Public Land Management Act 5422
