In 1897, the first Italian immigrant family opened a small Italian-American café on Main Street in Romulus. That same year, the German born Isaac Funk founded the Fairmount Coffee Company in Detroit. The Romulus Industrial Park started out as an open-air manufacturing park that was developed by Chrysler Corporation in 1957-58.Today it hosts companies like United Technologies Corp., Grumman Corporation (formerly Ford Motor Company), Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV (formerly Lancia), PepsiCo Inc., Asahi Kasei Ltd., Mazda Motor Co., Hitachi Kogyo plc., and Sanyo Electric Power Co.. The industrial park is also home to two universities: Wayne State University in Detroit Mercy College Park adjacent to I-696 and Michigan State University East in East Lansing adjoining US 12. There are also several restaurants and nightlife venues within easy reach with activities like inline skating or golfing available nearby if you want some serious exercise!

Michigan also played an important role during World War II as one of six U.S. states that united to form the United States of America. In 1945, when Japan surrendered following World War II, Michigan joined other U.S.-led nations inCelebrating Victory at Toronto Harbor! As part of this celebration, Michigan Governor George Romney proclaimed October 11th as National Japanese American History Month! Today, Michiganders continue to play an important role within their own communities and across North America through industries such as technology and automotive manufacturing; service providers such as health care; retail businesses; aerospace industry; and professional sports teams like Wayne State University Spartans football and hockey programs are among some of Michigan’s most well-known institutions/facilities around the world!
