Riverview is a town in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. Riverview is located on the Ottawa River and is named after the river. The town was founded in 1851 by early settlers of what is now Detroit. It was incorporated as a village in 1854. The first post office in Riverview opened on February 12, 1851, and remained open until it closed on October 15, 1865. The first settler to arrive in what is now Riverview was John Pritchett from Boston, Massachusetts. He built a log cabin on the bank of the Ottawa River which he named "River View." Pritchett's cabin served as the nucleus for what would become Riverview. In 1855, John Aiken moved toriver view from Port Huron and began trading with local tribes for goods that he supplies for his farmstead at Sault Ste Marie (now part of Toronto). In 1861-1862, James Cook moved from Chicago to start a flour mill at Sault Ste Marie and started trading with local tribes for goods that he supplies for his farmstead there at Sault Ste Marie (now part of Toronto). Cook also traded with Native Americans near present day Greenfield Township for goods necessary to sustain their lifestyle including items like cornmeal, sandals and other handicrafts They stored these goods below ground until they could be haulered downriver to be exported back home during winter months when ice prevented shipment upriver. Cook himself would go out into the river each morning Ice fishing before coming home late afternoon to dinner prepared by his wife Theresa who cooked over an open fire using whatever materials she could find lying around her house such as logs or bricks mixed with leaves etc... Riverview is a small town in the Kalamazoo Valley of Michigan, United States. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. Riverview is part of the Grand Rapids–Wolverine, MI Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1836 by Nicholas Davenport and John Fenton as the village of "Riverside". In 1841, it became a post county seat and was renamed to "Riverview" after the river on which it sat. The first store in Riverview opened in 1847. It closed in 1957 but reopened as a gas station on State Road 44 in 1984. In 1969, RiverVIEW received city status from Grand Rapids and began to operate as its own municipality with its own police department and fire department. In 2001, RiverVIEW annexed the neighboring community of Holland Park into its municipal boundaries; this annexation made RiverVIEW the second largest municipality in Grand Rapids with a population over 2,000 people. In November 2006, City Council passed an ordinance amending their zoning regulations to allow for mixed use development within their limits while still maintaining strict historic preservation ordinances that have kept much of what makes Riverview unique since it was founded nearly half century ago alive. This amendment allowed for three new businesses – two restaurants and one hotel – to open up shop within city limits while preserving many of the buildings that had been used during those years as local landmarks like Main Street SchoolKitchen follwoing Haggerty's Drugstore are still standing today (though now under new ownership). As of 2018 there are plans underway by Mayor David Jansky to annex adjacent rural communities such as White Cloud Township into River VIEW should they reach agreement with those communities about becoming annexed into their larger municipality if they surpass certain criteria set forth by Mayor Jansky including having a high school or college degree program available within their borders along with being able to show evidence that they will be led by an elected official who shares public service goals & objectives
