Riverview is a town in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States. The population was 7,551 at the 2010 census. Riverview is a small community located on the east side of Washtenaw Bay and just south of Muskegon Heights. It has been home to many entrepreneurs and business owners since its incorporation in 1892. The first settler in Riverview was John Whitney who arrived in 1848. He built a cabin on the banks of the river which he named Whitney's Landing after himself and his son James Whitney. In 1849, Isaac Stevens settled near present-day Riverview and also built a cabin on the riverbank. By 1850,river view had a population of about 20 people and by 1861 it had increased to 50 people because of waves being generated by the construction of an iron works nearby known as "The Arsenal". The town name came from William Johnson's efforts to rename it "River View" after his home state of Vermont which he saw while visiting there in 1851-2. In 1892, residents voted to incorporate their town with four other towns in Washtenaw County; Clinton Township ( north), Huron Township (east), Stroudsburg Township (southwest) and Whitmore City (northwest). This vote accomplished what many believed would be impossible - that all six towns amalgamate into one entity so they could share resources more efficiently. Because Riverview was one of those six towns, its annexation created some unique challenges for future residents including having to find someone to represent them on local councils as well as voting privileges within the new municipality should any issues arise between its constituent parts. river view currently has 6500 citizens
