Riverview is a town in the U.S. state of Michigan, on the Grand River near Sault Ste. Marie. The population was 2,566 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskegon Heights Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Riverview were French in 1698 and Jesuit missionaries in 1704 when they sailed upriver from Archangel, Russia to trade with the Huron people on their way to missionary work among them in what is now Ontario and Quebec. In 1814, John Marshall founded Marshall's Landing on the right bank of the river where he built a large dockyard for his steamboats importing goods and passengers downriver from Detroit and other Great Lakes ports. He also constructed a gristmill which became one of the most important commercial operations in town until it closed by 1912 due to competition from larger mills upstream at Saginaw Township and Clinton Township. As business declined during World War I, many people left for war service or moved away because there was little economic opportunity postwar; however, many others returned home after hostilities ended to continue life as normal citizens until about 1920 when organized crime began surfacing throughout western Michigan through shady deals between truck drivers transporting drugs across state lines (to sell then back into Canada) and local politicians looking to take advantage of that traffic via crooked contracts with suppliers and contractors who received kickbacks from those same traffickers-a practice known as "mad money." In response law enforcement forces began using high-powered rifles called "vectored beams" against organized crimesters outgunned by police officers while they tried to flee into neighboring counties or states; this led directly to prohibition laws being passed in 1928 limiting liquor sales within this newly formed "dry" region). From then until recent years most residents have managed day-to-day activities without much attention paid to organized crime which still exists but has been largely marginalized due primarily to lack of resources than ever before given its persistent powerbroking abilities

The riverview community on the east side of Riverview was founded in 1881 by Alexander and Sarah Ritchie. It was named after their home, which was located on the west side of the river. The community grew rapidly and soon had a post office, school, and store. The population increased so much that a fire destroyed most of the town in 1884. The Ritchie family rebuilt it and named itafter themselves again. The community slowly declined over time because of its distance from other communities and its lack of amenities. However, it continued to be a popular place to live until the late 1970s when it all but disappeared due to development along the river.
