There were 737 housing units at an average density of 269.3 per square mile (100.0/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 97% White, 0% African American, 0% Native American, and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2%of the population

Owosso is a small town in the Huron County, Michigan area and Census Tract #4. The population was 514 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Saginaw Metropolitan Area. The community lies on the east side of U.S. M-10 between Saginaw and Midland Counties, about 16 miles (25 km) north of Flint and 30 miles (48 km) south of Detroit. The first settler in Owosso was John White who arrived in 1837 from Kentucky with his family and others that year. He started a farm on what is now Main Street, just northwest of present day Owosso High School building. In 1840, he married Sarah Tuttle and they had six children: John, Infant (1841-1912), James Wistar Tuttle (1843-1896), Sarah A., Jonathan C., Anna H., and Lemuel B.. In 1851, White purchased 640 acres (248 ha) of land from Solomon Griggs near present day Midland Township for $5 per acre ($1 per sq ft). This included parts of what are now Saginaw Township, Ashtabula Township, Midland Township, as well as much of what is now Owosso Township. White named his new land "Owosso." The first post office at Owosso was established in 1852; it was called "Niles." By 1860 there were only 10 residents living in Owosso; by 1870 there were 95 residents including 40 farmers/cattlemen.. In 1865 Union General George Armstrong Custer's army passed through town during its march to Little Big Horn when he encountered numerically superior Sioux warriors led by Chief Crazy Horse outside the village limits near present day Hudson Road/Highway 24 less than 2 miles north of town center on M-10 west or southwest of town limits...Custer's troops destroyed all but four houses within one mile radius around Niles while sparing Owosose Mills....Crazy Horse escaped without being captured to become known as one of America's most legendary leaders due to this event which helped define 21st century Indian relations in America....In 1888 white businessman Luther Newcomb donated half a million dollars towards developing an agricultural college within the boundaries then defined for Owsoso village by Ulysses S Grant; Grant later became president...the college opened in 1893 under the name Michigan Agricultural College at Owego Falls(later renamed Wayne State University)...The today's site for east side High School Building where IGA occupied until 1984 were home sites for some early settlers before becoming part of OWOSSO when it came into existence...During World War II local gunsmiths manufactured aircraft engines used by military forces such as BoeingVertolAermacchiandLockheedMartinAtchison Thunderchief.. On November 25th 1957 about 50 people gathered at Baptist Church across from fire station on First Street Northwest to observe new moon night sky show organized by Astronomical Society Of Western Michigans Incorporated under International Agreement No 7291 signed December 17th 1951 by United States Deputy Director Dr Edwin Lander with Russian deputy director Igor Sikorsky signatory...After Dark sky show began with Objects located mainly Southern Hemisphere including Ursa Major Polaris & Vega stars followed by Moon which appeared large surrounded mostlyby Cloud formations
