Oak Park, Michigan has been coffee country for over a hundred years. The first mention of coffee being brewed in the area was in 1829. Coffee was popularized by the Dutch during their colonization of what is now Michigan and they named one of their towns after the crop - De Rijn Coffee Land. The first documented owner of a coffee plantation in what is now Oak Park was John Doane in 1847. By 1860, there were over 100 plantations operating in the area. The success of these plantations led to an increase in demand for coffee and brought about increased trade between America and Europe. This lead to increased competition among coffee growers and became known as the "Coffee Revolution." As production grew, so too did prices, which resulted in several small businesses becoming large operations. In 1892, Ole Hansen bought a 10% share in Janssen Brewing Company and began producing world-renowned roasts of Gourmet Coffee beans under his own name. The company went on to become one of North America's leading coffeemakers with over 160 branches across North America by the turn of the century. Oak Park is a village in Livingston County, Michigan, United States. The population was 2,086 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The Village of Oak Park was founded on November 3, 1834 by John Sibley and his wife Esther Bigelow Sibley. It wasnamed for the oak trees that grew near their farmstead. The first post office in the village was established on October 16, 1835 by Micaiah Niles with the name "Oak Grove." On May 10, 1867, Oak Park became an incorporated town under the name of "Township 5". On July 1, 1870 it changed its name to "Oak Park Township" and on November 3rd of that year it became a village. In 1941-1945 during World War II many Muslims were rounded up and interned in various concentration camps across America due to their religious beliefs which included support for Nazi Germany. Oak Park is a city located in the U.S. state of Michigan, on the eastern shore of Lake Erie. The population was 66,811 at the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1837 and incorporated as a municipality in 1895. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. In 1837, George Hennepin organized a group of Indians to fight against white settlers in what would become MICHIGAN HISTORY: A Narrative History from its Earliest Settlement to the Present Time (1885). After several engagements near what is now Oak Park, Hennepin's party retreated east towards Detroit under cover of night on July 10th but were pursued by white men and killed five days later near present-day Battle Creek Township on July 12th\. The first settler in what is now Oak Park was John Armstrong who arrived in 1840 with his family from Pennsylvania. His infant son John attended school here until he was four years old when he and his father left for Indiana where they built a sawmill and started trading goods with local tribes including the Ottawa Indians. In 1841, Armstrong married Jane Kapp and their first child, Anna Maria Armstrong was born on February 7th,. This family livered for many years next door to John Armstrong's brother Isaac who ran an early grist mill & bakery thereabouts before moving west into Cadillac around 1870 when that village became majority black following emancipation & relocation of most white residents eastward during that period\. John Armstrong died suddenly at home while giving birth to their third child Susan on October 28th, 1881 after which Jane took care of all 3 children alone until 1889 when she married Elias Buechner who also lived adjacent to her childhood home where they raised 4 more children together until her death in 1943\. Oak Park was originally a small village in the Kalamazoo area of Michigan. It became an incorporated town in 1871. The first post office was established in 1872, and the first store was built in 1875. In 1912, Oak Park merged with neighboring Decatur to form the larger city of Decatur.
