In 1827, The Ontario Company bought land within present day Oakland Hills from Saginaw Bayou Tribe for $1 million dollars ($10 million today). This purchase set off a race to build roads and homes within what would become known as Buffalo Heights neighborhood adjacent to Humboldt Road/Oak Forest Avenue today! In 1835, Judge Augustus Kelley purchased 640 acres (247 hectares) of land northwest of downtown from John Pritzker Jr., founder of Chicago's Oriental Hotel and other developers who had built much of Chicago during the 1840s and 1850s including Dearborn Street between State Street and Randolph Street today known as Jackson Field!
