The Oak Park Naval Shipyard was one of the largest shipyards in the United States during World War II. The shipyard was located on the river between downtown Oak Park and Midtown, and it produced a variety of warships, submarines, and merchant ships. The yard also built several Navy submarines, including USS Phelps (SS-403), USS Greenleaf (SS-405), USS Hayward (SS-407), USS Purdy (SS-409), and USS Sloat (AGC-3). The first naval vessel built at theOak Park Naval Shipyard was an experimental boat called HMS Rattlesnake. The Rattlesnake was designed to be used as a training vessel for sailors in basic torpedo skills. She was launched on December 1, 1941, and she served as a training vessel for submariners until she was destroyed in 1945. During World War II, the Navy developed new destroyers and submarines that were not available from other shipyards. At the Oak Park Naval Shipyard, these boats were designed and constructed by various departments within the Naval Warfare Center Atlantic Fleet. These boats included destroyerboats such as DDG 71(DD-465), DDG 76(DDH-1), DDG 79(DDI-1), DDG 82(DDRF-2A) – all of which were built at the shipyard between 1942 and 1945. Additionally, launches of destroyers like BBY 73(LPD-) were made from Catalina Island before being towed downriver to Midtown for installation at the Navy Yard in order to ensure quick availability for combat duty. One of these new destroyerboats is sometimes known as “The Unsung Hero” because she did not receive many awards or recognition during her lifetime but she played a significant role in helping protect American shores during World War II. This particular destroyerboat is nicknamed SSN 571 because she served alongside SSN 771 during Operation Neptune’s Spear when both vessels were assigned to support Task Force 58 operating off Norfolk Virginia Beach on July 15th 1944. While their mission was focused on harassing German shipping, SSN 571 managed to sink three German ships while her partners sank two more vessels without any losses occurring unto them herself! This achievement is often cited as one of her most noteworthy accomplishments along with her participation in Operation Neptune’s Spear which helped end World War II.#

Oak Park is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the southern tip of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 15,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The name Oak Park originated from an oak tree that grew near what is now downtown Oak Park in 1837 by General John Cushing and his wife Sarah Winchester Cushing. A group of men from nearby Highland Township platted what became Oak Park on April 14, 1837 under the leadership of Captain George Stephenson with the idea to create a new town to serve as "a model village" for other villages across North America which were being planned by Stephenson's friend and associate James Kossuth. In 1847, Rev. Benjamin Banneker came to Oak Park and began preaching Christianity here. In 1850 he built a chapel and named it after himself – Banneker Chapel or Maple Grove Chapel (now known as Elmwood). Reverend Banneker also started a school here in 1851 which became known as Maple Grove Academy (now known as Strayer University). In 1861, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in Springfield, Illinois and many people believed that this had something to do with Oak Park where some residents even went so far as to plant fake blood stains on their doors in memory of him! One resident even burned down one of Springfield's hotels just yards from his home! No matter though- Residents quickly rallied around their Mayor John Altgeld who called for strict measures against crime including increasing taxes and building more police stations throughout town! The citizens then passed an ordinance forbidding public drunkenness which led to increased law enforcement activity! Oak Park experienced another growth spurt starting around 1870 when farmers decided to move into the area because they found good land there yielding high yields due to its fertile soil and cool climate plus access to good water supplies via streamsides northward into Canada! This period also saw construction of several churches including First Baptist Church (1901), Trinity Episcopal Church (1902), Sacred Heart Catholic Parish (1899), Christ Our King Lutheran Church (1920) – all within walking distance or minutes' drive each other – giving rise not only to today's current grid layout but also first street names such as Maple Avenue/Strayer University Drive/Lincoln Boulevard etc., thanks largely too much engineering feats accomplished during that time like Piquette Boulevard/Michigan Avenue mainline suburbia development happening right next door during this era courtesy Woodward Avenue mainline suburban development reaching up into Dearborn Heights today (!): Much credit should go out too Truman Street modern day equivalent designation given it’s namesake Driscoll Road whom played an instrumental role during this time leading uptown along Woodward paralleling Lake Pontchartrain Blvd: things really did change over those years folks…!! Oak Park is a town in Oakland County, Michigan, United States. The population was 5,691 at the 2010 census. The name means "oak tree clearing" in the village of East Troy, which was first settled by French colonists in 1796. In 1836, it became part of the new Detroit Township. The Village of East Troy was organized on January 1, 1835 from portions of Ann Arbor and Oak Park. On December 6, 1868 the Village of East Troy merged with the Township of Detroit to form what is nowOak Park Township. In 1902 General Motors opened its Rouge factory in nearby Sterling Heights and began hiring locals to work there; this made Oak Park one of GM's largest plants outside North America. This factory closed in 1971 but left a lasting legacy on the community with many Chevrolet models still manufactured here today. In 1945 then-Mayor Harry Hindman ordered all Japanese Americans living within city limits to leave or face relocation due to anti-Japanese sentiment during World War II; over 1000 people did so and most moved into neighborhoods such as Oldtown or Dearborn Heights where they continued to live until after the war ended. The few remaining Japanese Americans were eventually able to reintegrate into society and enjoy their full range of rights and privileges following the war's end - something that could not be said for many other groups who were rounded up and forced onto reservations during wartime (such as African Americans). Today oak park is home to a diverse mix of cultures having been founded on immigration from various parts around the world including India, Korea and China among others since its incorporation into Michigan’s history in 1836 as part of Detroit Township (now Oakland County).
